Číčovice between Baroque and nature
Accommodation in Číčovice
Číčovice offers several clearly distinct themes to consider when planning your trip: sacred architectural history, a historic mill, a geologically significant rock formation, Adventure Golf and a cycling route. The history of its buildings spans from a Romanesque sacred site dating back to the 12th century to an early 18th-century Baroque building. The landscape and leisure activities offer other points of interest, so you can choose the focus of your stay according to your interests.
Architectural history: chapel, church and mill
The Chapel of the Holy Cross in Malé Číčovice is an octagonal Baroque building. It was built between 1711 and 1714 and restored in 1908–1909. Its design and date of construction set it apart from the older Church of St. Lawrence and provide another sacred landmark in the history of the village.
The Church of St. Lawrence lies south of Číčovice and dates back to a Romanesque sacred site from the 12th century. It was altered in 1764 and 1905; Gothic wall paintings were discovered inside the church in 1901. The alterations and the discovery belong to different chapters in the church’s history: its Romanesque origins were followed by later changes and an art-historical dimension. The cemetery adjoining the church is also home to a chapel dedicated to St. Florian, dating from the 18th century. Its location places it in direct relation to the church.
Kalingrův mlýn is also one of Číčovice’s historic sights and dates from 1752. As a mill, it offers a different point of interest from the religious buildings. Local history therefore includes not only churches and chapels, but also another building with its own function.
Geology and the landscape
Číčovický kamýk is a siliceous rock knoll of geomorphological significance and a paleontological site. Geomorphology draws attention to landforms; paleontology studies traces of past life. This makes it a very different point of interest from the architectural history of the chapel and church. The rock knoll lies south of Číčovice, above the Church of St. Lawrence. If you are interested in geology and paleontology as well as architecture, it offers a distinct way to explore the local landscape.
Adventure Golf and cycling route
Adventure Golf Číčovice has an 18-hole course. Equipment for the game is available to borrow free of charge. The facility is located in the “Okolí Okoře” protected landscape area, on the banks of the Zákolanský potok. This gives you the option of choosing a leisure activity with its own setting in the landscape alongside the historic buildings. As opening times may change, it is advisable to check the latest times before visiting.
For a cycling trip, route 0078 provides a specific point of reference: it connects Tuchoměřice with Číčovice and continues as far as Okoř. Unlike the individual buildings and the golf course, it connects several places. You can therefore decide whether Číčovice interests you primarily for its history, its landscape, its leisure activities or as a stop on a cycling trip. Check the current route and conditions before setting out, as these may change.
