Babice: Sports, Cycling Routes and Local History
Accommodation in Babice
Babice lies southeast of Prague, at the entrance to the deep forests of Černokostelec and Jevany. Sports facilities, cycling and hiking connections, and local history offer different points of reference when choosing where to stay. If you are looking for a hotel in Babice, you can decide which of these matters most to you, whether you are more interested in sports, particular route destinations, or the town’s development.
Sports Facilities and Activities for Children
Sportovní areál Babice is located on Topolová Street, next to the kindergarten. The complex includes a 29 × 18-metre multifunctional artificial-turf court for various ball sports, including tennis. There is also a 100 × 58-metre grass field equipped for football and rugby. The grass field is therefore considerably larger than the artificial-turf court; the activities they are intended for also differ.
Cyklohřiště, a pump track with two courses, is located in the forest park near the kindergarten. One course is intended for younger children with balance bikes, small bicycles, or all-terrain scooters; the other is designed for more experienced bikers and larger bicycles. A technical zone complements the facilities and provides a place to practise riding skills. Babice Forest Park also offers children play features in a woodland setting; individual facilities may change. Individual play facilities may change.
Cycling and Hiking Connections
Cycling Route 0031 runs from Babice via Strašín and Svojetice towards Voděradské bučiny. Cycling Route 8206 leads from Babice via Doubek and Mrzky to Zahrady u Českého Brodu; Cycling Route 1A connects Babice with Žernovka. The route numbers and place names distinguish these cycling connections and provide specific destinations to help you find your way.
For hiking, a red-marked trail connects Babice with Třebohostice and Strašín. A yellow-marked trail leads to Doubek and Mukařov. Unlike the cycling routes, these trails are distinguished by colour; their respective destinations offer further guidance. This allows you to identify the routes by the places they pass through or connect.
Location and Local History
Babice was probably established in the 13th century; the first written mention dates to 1381. In the 1920s, the town developed into an important holiday destination for Prague’s lower and middle classes, who built holiday homes there. A recreational hotel on the village square became a landmark of Babice. The town’s history thus spans both a probable medieval origin and a later period shaped by leisure and recreation.
