Bdín combines a rare, well-preserved historic settlement structure with a hilly, forested setting. The village lies in Džbán Nature Park, and the Bakovský potok stream flows through it. This offers two distinct perspectives for choosing a destination: the village’s historic layout and a tourist route that passes through Bdín. A small bell tower, a bust, and memorial trees add specific local points of interest to these broader themes.

Historic Village Structure and Local History

Bdín is first mentioned in writing in 1318, when Jan ze Bdína (Jan de Ptyna) is named. This early date provides a specific point of reference for the village’s history. Its historic settlement structure is rare and well preserved, and has been practically unaffected by modern construction. It thus describes the village as a whole, rather than just a single building.

A small bell tower stands in Bdín’s village square. A bust of Jan Amos Comenius, created by sculptor F. Čech in 1913, is also located there. The same square thus features both a small bell tower and a dated work depicting a named person, created by a named artist.

Landscape and Hiking Route

The landscape around Bdín is harmoniously varied, hilly, and heavily forested. Together with its location in Džbán Nature Park and the Bakovský potok stream flowing through Bdín, this gives the area specific natural features: terrain, forest, and water. If you choose a destination based on landscape features like these, you can experience them all in Bdín.

The 40 km Route No. 11 – Kozojedy runs from Srbeč through Bdín to Kroučová. Bdín is therefore part of a longer, named route. At the village entrance, the route turns onto a narrow road that soon climbs uphill. After the ascent, the blue-marked tourist route runs through a beech forest towards Kroučová and Třeboc. This sequence provides practical guidance for planning your hike along the section described. Trail conditions and markings may change, so check them before setting out.

Transmitter and Memorial Trees

A transmitter shaped like an artificial pine tree is located on Vošková hill near Bdín. In the 1990s, it became the first device of its kind in the Czech Republic. As a technical landmark in the area, it adds another named detail to the village’s historic features.

Two memorial trees stand along the roads to Srbeč and Přerubenice. On the road to Srbeč there is an approximately 400-year-old English oak; on the road to Přerubenice there is an ash designated as a memorial tree. It is about 50 years old and has a trunk circumference of 2.3 metres. The English oak is therefore the older of the two; the ash also has a stated trunk circumference. The tree species and road directions also distinguish the two features.
