Discover Charvatce: Observation Tower, Pond and Hotels
Accommodation in Charvatce
Highlights of a stay in Charvatce include cycling routes through the built-up area, the VelkĂ˝ ZáhumennĂ˝ rybnĂk and the rozhledna Charvatce. When choosing the village as a destination, it is also worth considering whether you will travel by car or bus and the pond’s seasonal use. While researching hotels, you can weigh up whether cycling routes, the water, a viewpoint or local history matter most to you.
Getting There and Finding Your Way
Charvatce can only be reached by private car or public bus. If you plan to travel by bus, check the timetable for your travel dates so you can fit the journey into your plans.
Several cycling routes pass through the built-up area of Charvatce. If you are planning a particular ride, check the current route beforehand, as routes may change.
There is a newly built children’s playground in the lower part of the settlement. If you are considering Charvatce for a family trip, you can take this specific local feature into account when making your decision.
At the edge of Charvatce, a paved path runs from road II/275 along the dam of the VelkĂ˝ ZáhumennĂ˝ rybnĂk. Path conditions may change; if you plan to use it for a particular outing, check the conditions before your visit.
Pond and Observation Tower
The VelkĂ˝ ZáhumennĂ˝ rybnĂk plays an important role in water retention and provides a refuge for animals. It is also used for swimming in summer. If you plan to swim during your stay, check the local conditions before visiting. The pond thus combines seasonal swimming with year-round ecological functions.
The rozhledna Charvatce is a 14-metre-high metal observation tower built in 2020 and clad entirely in larch boards. Its covered viewing platform is 12 metres above the ground and offers panoramic views of the whole municipality. A spiral metal staircase leads to the top. The figures refer to two different measurements: 14 metres is the height of the tower, while 12 metres is the height of the platform.
While the pond is notable for water retention, wildlife and summer swimming, the tower stands out for its construction and panoramic views.
History and Traditions
The earliest surviving written mention of Charvatce dates from 1382. It names Arnošt z Charvatec as the owner of the estate. The year marks the earliest surviving mention, not necessarily the beginning of settlement. The name Charvatce is associated with the Slavic tribe of the Charváti. These are two distinct points: 1382 relates to the written history of the village, while the connection to the Charváti relates to the interpretation of its name.
The traditional Easter HodovaÄŤka was held in Charvatce in April 2023.
