Církvice offers travelers a clear cultural and historical focus: the Romanesque Church of St. James in Jakub and the protected area of St. Lawrence. There are also community events and route information. If you are looking for hotels in Církvice, these topics can serve as a starting point for deciding what kind of stay you want: architectural history, a specific festival or a tour each appeal to different travel interests.

Romanesque Church and Protected Area

The Church of St. James in Jakub, Církvice, was built in the 12th century and features Romanesque sculptures on the south wall of the main nave. Its consecration is documented in a deed of consecration by Daniel, Bishop of Prague, dated 1165; King Vladislav and Queen Judith attended the ceremony. The location of the sculptures and the year of consecration offer two different ways to explore the building: a specific Romanesque detail and a historically dated event. The 12th century refers to the construction period; 1165 is the year of the consecration.

The protected area of St. Lawrence comprises the church, the cemetery chapel of St. Florian, an enclosing wall with a gate, and the adjoining plots. The protected area therefore includes not only the religious buildings, but also the surrounding structure and associated plots.

Following its ceremonial opening on April 30, 2022, the church was open to the public daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., except Mondays. Check before your visit to see whether these hours are still in effect.

Events and Community Programs

Jakubské posvícení is a traditional festival in Jakub. If you would like to include it in your travel plans, check the dates and program for the relevant edition. Another community event held annually in Církvice is Čertovská stezka odvahy.

In November 2025, the municipality introduced the library club Knihomílci in Církvice as a regular monthly gathering for preschool children and their accompanying adults. If the offering is relevant to your trip, check the current date in advance.

Routes and Hiking and Cycling Events

The Východočeská Route recommends a short detour to the Romanesque Church of St. James in Jakub, Církvice. A cycling route also runs through the cadastral area of Církvice. The route references differ: the route recommendation points to a detour to the church, while the cycling route passes through the cadastral area.

The hiking and cycling event Jarní putování se sv. Jakubem has been held repeatedly. At its ninth edition, on May 18, 2024, its longest route led to Církvice for the first time. This is a specific, dated example of how hiking and cycling were connected with the town at one edition of the event.
