Dolni Bousov combines historic buildings with educational trails that vary in length and subject matter. You can tailor your stay to whether you are primarily interested in local history, a circular route, or both.

Choose educational trails by route and subject

The “Okolo Klenice za hrou a poučením” educational trail is a ten-kilometre circular route that starts and ends at the swimming pool in Dolní Bousov. Its 13 information boards cover the history and present-day life of the places along the route. Trail conditions may vary seasonally.

The four-kilometre “Městem Dolním Bousovem” circular route starts and ends at the railway station; its signs point in one direction. Eight information boards provide information about local history and nature. There is also a popular game for children. The four-kilometre route focuses on local history and nature; “Okolo Klenice za hrou a poučením” is ten kilometres long and covers the history and present-day life of the places along the route.

The “Za lesním tichem” educational trail starts at Pískovák pond and is just under 13 kilometres long.

Several wooden footbridges are part of the route infrastructure on the “Krajinou Červenského rybníka” educational trail. This feature adds a specific element of the route to the information on the length and subjects of the other trails. The circular route is 3.5 kilometres long and starts and ends at Tovární pond.

Church, Town Hall and Town Square

The Baroque Kostel svaté Kateřiny (Church of St. Catherine) was built between 1759 and 1760. Its tower was added in 1832; the sculptural decoration inside the church comes from the workshop of Martin Ignác Jelínek and is dated to 1750–1770. These details allow the building’s history to be traced through several stages: the tower was added after the church was built, while the stated period for the interior decoration begins partly before the church’s construction.

Another historic building is the town hall, an architecturally notable Empire-style building dating from 1861. T. G. Masaryk Square is also home to a Baroque Marian column from the 18th century. Four old lime trees surround it.

Finding your way around

The tourist information centre is housed in a historic former rectory close to the town square. It offers information and promotional materials, maps, postcards, souvenirs and exhibitions.

The educational trails range from three and a half to just under 13 kilometres; the church, town hall and Marian column provide a distinct historical focus. When planning your trip, consider whether you would like to focus on local history, nature, or a longer circular route. This will help you search for a hotel in Dolní Bousov based on the interests that matter to you during your stay.
