Doubravička: History, Landscape and Local Festivals
Accommodation in Doubravička
Landscape and Getting Around
Doubravička lies in a gently rolling plain that extends to the foot of the 508-metre-high Vrátenská hora. Deep valleys border the plain on both sides. The village is outside marked hiking trails, although the surrounding area has numerous marked hiking and cycling routes. The nearest marked route leads from the railway station in Skalsko towards the Kokořínsko Protected Landscape Area; no such route passes through the village. Check the route status before your trip.
South of Doubravička, the Košátecký potok winds its way through the landscape and is regarded as a place to relax. The former landscape also differs from today’s network of trails: the area was once covered by extensive forests and scrubland and dotted with numerous pools and small ponds. These historical landscape features add to the picture of the gently rolling plain and its deep valleys.
History and Architecture
The municipal chronicle was established in 1923 and retrospectively covers the period from the late 19th century to 1951. Doubravička was probably founded in direct connection with a feudal fortress called “Na Zámku”. A former hillfort or fortress site in Doubravička was destroyed and burned down during the Hussite Wars between 1425 and 1430.
House No. 8 is a multi-storey farmstead with outbuildings; its upper storey is set unusually asymmetrically. This means that the upper part of the building is not centred over the lower part. On the 1842 map of the Stable Cadastre, House No. 8 is recorded as a timber building. The architectural description and the map entry therefore offer different historical points of reference: the description concerns the farmstead’s architecture, while the map records it as a timber building in 1842.
A newly built chapel stands at the entrance to the village from the direction of Kovanec. A cross stands in the central public square. Together with the tradition of the fortress, the destroyed former site and House No. 8, these provide different ways of exploring the village’s history. The dates range from the Hussite period to the map record of 1842 and the chronicle, which retrospectively covers the late 19th century and the period up to 1951.
Festivals and Community Facilities
The Maškarní ples is a masked ball held on 14 February; it is listed as an annual event for 2026. The Májové posezení, a social May celebration held on 24 May, is listed as an annual event for 2025. Dates and arrangements may change. The February and May dates offer different seasonal occasions; if you would like to plan your trip around one of the festivals, check the current date.
Doubravička has a sports field and a children’s playground. Alongside the historical and landscape features, these two community facilities are also part of the village. You can consider sports and play as additional concrete aspects of what the village has to offer when choosing your destination.
