Křesetice can be understood through three specific features: the Gothic Church of St. Margaret, Baroque sandstone statues and the gently rolling terrain of the Kutná Hora Plateau.

Church of St. Margaret and protected monuments

The Church of St. Margaret is a Gothic church dating from the 14th century. It is considered the oldest building in Křesetice and stands on a rise above the town. Its date and elevated location offer two distinct points of reference for understanding the building in its historical and geographical context.

In addition to the church, the protected complex includes a crypt and a mortuary chapel, as well as a perimeter wall with a gate and an access staircase. The ensemble therefore comprises not only the church building, but also funerary structures, an enclosure and access features.

Zámek čp. 1 is also a protected monument. It comprises a former fortress and a perimeter wall. In contrast, the focus at the Church of St. Margaret is the church complex; at Zámek čp. 1, it is the former fortress. The two monuments thus offer different historical points of reference.

Baroque sandstone statues in the town

Three Baroque sandstone statues can be distinguished by their dates and locations. The statue of St. Sebastian dates from the first half of the 18th century and stands in the town centre near house No. 140. The statue of St. Barbara is dated 1720 and is located outside the town, near the sports ground. The statue of St. Wenceslas dates from 1750 and stands on the road to Úmonín.

For Sebastian, a period is given; for Barbara and Wenceslas, a single year is specified. Their locations also differ: the town centre, the area outside the town near the sports ground, and the road to Úmonín. This makes it possible to compare the statues both by date and by their connection to the town, without grouping them together as a single set of monuments.

Landscape of the Kutná Hora Plateau

Křesetice lies in the gently rolling terrain of the Kutná Hora Plateau. In general, the land rises towards the south and southwest. This topographical context places the individual architectural and artistic monuments within a broader landscape: the character of the town is shaped not only by its historic buildings, but also by its rolling terrain.

When planning your trip, you can weigh these two perspectives against each other: the town’s history as reflected in the church and statues, or the landscape of the plateau. You do not have to focus on a single monument; the different dates, architectural forms and locations each offer a distinct perspective on Křesetice.
