Landscape and Village Character

Keblov lies in a flat hollow surrounded by forests, near the Želivka Reservoir. A stream flows through the village and feeds the reservoir. The two bodies of water can be distinguished as follows: the reservoir is nearby, while the stream runs through Keblov. Together with the area’s preserved rural character, they provide a clear focus when choosing a destination: the landscape, the setting, and the water shape the character of the village. If you choose a stay based on its natural surroundings, both the forest hollow and its proximity to the reservoir are appealing features.

Village Green and Church

A distinctive feature of the village is its picturesque green with old lime trees, which is well maintained. It adds a tangible village landmark to the landscape. A shop and an inn serve residents and the many visitors who come for recreation. If you plan to visit either, check the current opening hours beforehand.

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (“Kostel Nanebevzetí P. Marie”) gives the village a historic dimension. Originally Gothic, it has been documented in writing since 1352; its construction is thought to date to the early 14th century. The year 1352 therefore marks the written record, not the stated construction date. The church was restored after a fire in 1895. Its history can thus be understood in distinct phases: a presumed early origin, a later written record, and subsequent restoration after the fire. For travelers interested in medieval religious architecture, the church is a notable historic landmark in Keblov.

Getting There and the Lookout Tower

Keblov is accessible via the D1 motorway (Prague–Brno); Exit 66 is only a few kilometers away. If you are driving, this exit provides a specific reference point for planning your route. The exact route depends on your starting point and travel date, so plan accordingly. This road information adds a practical aspect of getting there to the destination’s rural setting.

The Kalamajka lookout tower on Javornická hůra can be planned as a separate activity. It is accessed with a key that you can borrow from the mayor of Keblov. Arrange to borrow the key before you arrive if you would like to visit the tower. Planning this activity includes collecting the key, so access differs from the general journey to Keblov.

When planning, it is useful to treat these two access arrangements separately: the D1 and Exit 66 help orient your journey to Keblov, while borrowing the key relates to the tower on Javornická hůra. This makes clear which step concerns the drive and which concerns the individual visit.

A Dated Event

The lantern parade “Lampionový průvod” took place in Keblov on November 15, 2024, and November 16, 2025. These dates refer to two past events.
