Klučov offers a variety of attractions: archaeological sites, winegrowing with tastings, and the Kudrnáč Trail give you different ways to plan your trip. If you are looking for a hotel in Klučov, you can shape your stay around whether historical sites, a tasting, or the hiking route is the focus of your travel plans. Practical considerations also vary: visibility, making an appointment, and timetables matter depending on what you choose to focus on.

Archaeological traces in Klučov

The Slavic hillfort Na Ptáčku was built in the mid-8th century on a rocky promontory above the Šembera stream. The distinctive spur rises directly above the southeastern edge of the built-up area. The site covered 1.6 hectares and was surrounded by three rows of palisades and a ditch. During the Hussite Wars, the site was used to establish a field camp.

The area of 1.6 hectares describes the extent of the site; the three rows of palisades and the ditch explain the layout of the fortifications. A palisade consists of a row of upright stakes. The extensive remains of the defensive lines are not visible in the landscape today. Vegetation and maintenance can affect their visibility; if visible traces are important to your visit, check the condition in advance.

The Klučov water fortress is oval and measures 58 × 32 metres; its moat is six to 22 metres wide. An archaeological find dating from around the 13th century attests to the water fortress. This brings together two distinct historical reference points: the hillfort’s origins in the mid-8th century and a find relating to the water fortress from around the 13th century.

Vineyards and tastings

Vinařství Klučov offers a guided tasting of eight wine samples from the Klučov vineyards. Check the availability of the guided tasting before travelling. Private wine tastings are available by arrangement for groups of eight or more; arrange a time with the winery in advance. The number eight has two meanings here: it refers to the samples included in the guided tasting and the minimum number of participants for a private group tasting.

The vineyards cover a total of 5.4 hectares and are divided across three sites. Planting began in 2017; the vineyard area may change in the future. The tasting gives you a specific way to visit, while the area and number of sites describe the scale of winegrowing.

The Kudrnáč Trail and travelling by train

The Kudrnáč Trail runs from Poříčany via the Klučov Hillfort to Klučov and is more than three kilometres long. It is suitable for families with children; along the way, there is a barefoot path and views of the surrounding area, among other features. Trail conditions and individual features may change, so check the current state of the trail before setting out.

For travel by train, line 011 between Prague and Kolín is relevant: Poříčany and Klučov are directly on this line, which provides access to the Kudrnáč Trail. Check the timetable before travelling.
