Kochánky lies in the fertile valley of the Jizera. Three themes stand out when choosing a place to stay here: protected dry grasslands and juniper, memorial sites in the municipality, and an educational trail and a cycling route connected with the area. If you are looking for a hotel, this overview can help you decide how Kochánky fits with the focus of your trip. You can weigh up whether nature, local history or a connection to a route is the main consideration in your plans.

The natural environment on the Jizera

The Stráně u Kochánek Nature Monument protects common juniper formations on heathland or calcareous dry grasslands. These include habitat types T3.4B and T3.3D. T3.4B refers to broad-leaved dry grasslands without significant orchid populations and with common juniper; T3.3D denotes narrow-leaved dry grasslands, also without significant orchid populations. For nature enthusiasts, both the juniper and the different types of dry grassland are therefore of interest.

The Slepeč Nature Monument covers areas in the cadastral territory of Kochánky. It lies on the right bank of the Jizera, on a gently south-facing plateau divided by several dry erosion gullies leading towards the Jizera. Its primary conservation focus is the lady’s slipper orchid, which is endangered in the Pojizeří region. While Stráně u Kochánek is characterized by juniper and dry grassland, the conservation focus at Slepeč is the lady’s slipper orchid; the plateau also has its own distinctive landform. The two nature monuments therefore differ both in their conservation focus and in the landscape described.

Local history and recreation

Old walls were discovered at the site known as “V Zámku” in the centre of the village, in the area of house No. 161. According to tradition, a robber baron’s manor once stood there.

Františka Šťastného Park commemorates the accomplished sports champion František Šťastný, who came from Kochánky, and other racers who contributed to the success of Czechoslovak motorcycle sport. The park thus connects the area with the history of motorcycle racing. Stará škola Park provides a place for passive recreation for the residents of Kochánky and other visitors to the municipality. The two parks therefore have different stated functions: one is a memorial site, while the other is for recreation.

Educational trail, cycling route and water

The Krajinou Rudolfa II. educational trail runs through flat terrain and is suitable for recreational cyclists, families with children and walkers. Its route reaches Kochánky at approximately kilometre 32. The trail has 17 information panels. The terrain, the user groups mentioned and the approximate position along the route offer different points of reference for understanding this trail.

In addition, KČT cycling route 0241 runs from Benátky nad Jizerou in the direction of Kochánky. The route descriptions emphasize different details: for the educational trail, the terrain, user groups and approximate position on the route are given; for cycling route 0241, the starting point of Benátky nad Jizerou and the direction towards Kochánky are specified.

The Kochánky u jezu water body covers 1.0 ha and is part of the JIZERA 1 A fishing district (411 174). Information about fishing districts and conditions may be updated by the responsible authority. Therefore, check the current information from the Czech Fishing Union before making specific plans.
