If you are considering Koleč as a destination for a stay, its local history offers several distinct points of interest: Zámek Koleč with its beekeeping museum, the castle church, the history of beekeeping and a wayside shrine in Týnec u Kolče. This lets you choose your destination based on specific interests.

The Castle and Arrival

Zámek Koleč is at most a five-minute walk from Koleč railway station. For rail travellers, this is a practical point to consider if the castle is central to your plans: you can count the walk as a short leg of your arrival. The Muzeum včelařství is located in the west wing of Zámek Koleč. It opened to the public on July 31, 2016, in a reconstructed wing. If you are planning a visit, check current access arrangements with the operator.

The Church and the History of Beekeeping

The Kostel Nejsvětější Trojice was added to the south wing of Zámek Koleč between 1711 and 1713. The church is therefore structurally connected to the castle. The castle church hosts, among other events, the Medová pouť, concerts and midnight masses. Dates may vary; if any of these events are important to your trip, check the event dates in advance. A historic music collection is associated with the Kostel Nejsvětější Trojice. About two-thirds of its holdings consist of handwritten musical sources dating from the second half of the 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century.

The history of beekeeping extends beyond the museum: in 1879, the Švarc family founded a factory for beehives and beekeeping supplies right in Koleč. Together with the Muzeum včelařství, this provides a second way to explore the subject, this time from the perspective of local production. The manufacture of beehives and beekeeping supplies identifies both the products and the area of beekeeping they were intended for. For travellers interested in this subject, the history of the factory and the museum offer two distinct points of interest.

The Wayside Shrine and Local Conditions

Another site of cultural and historical interest is the Boží muka in Týnec u Kolče. It stands to the right of the road leading from Zákolany through Mozolín to Týnec. The wayside shrine is a three-tiered pillar with shallow niches containing images of saints painted on sheet metal. Its three tiers, niches and images provide specific features by which to identify the structure architecturally. In 2009, the Boží muka was restored as a cultural monument at a cost of 254,000 Kč.

A terrain report from April 2019 describes the area around Studánka Svatého Václava as heavily waterlogged and recommends wearing rubber boots to reach it. Check local conditions before your visit.
