Kolomuty – Village History, Landscape and Cycle Routes
Accommodation in Kolomuty
Kolomuty brings together a historic village centre, archaeological traces and a landscape shaped by the Klenice and its floodplain. Two cycle routes also pass through the village. If you are looking for hotels for a trip here, these themes can help you decide what to focus on during your stay.
Landscape and Village Green
The Klenice and its floodplain shape Kolomuty’s landscape and together fulfil landscape-design, ecological-stabilisation and recreational functions. In the southern part of the municipality, the wooded Chlum ridge provides an important recreational landscape for Kolomuty’s residents.
The historic village green provides a clear landmark in the village. At its centre stands a statue of Saint Joseph; on the western side stands a brick chapel with a bell tower built using post construction. The contrast between brickwork and post construction makes the different building styles within the site easy to distinguish.
Archaeological Traces and History
The archaeological traces span several periods. Stone tools from the Neolithic period have been found within the municipality, including flat axes and adzes dating back around 7,000 years. A Bell Beaker-type vessel from the same area suggests that new ethnic groups from Western Europe settled there around 4,000 years ago. A Late Bronze Age Urnfield culture burial ground was discovered by chance while ploughing in 1923. It is around 3,000 years old and is associated with the Lusatian and Silesian-Platěnice cultures. A vessel from the Roman period (400–0 BC), found in Kolomuty, is held in the archaeological collection of the Muzeum Mladoboleslavska.
At the site of the former fortress, a mound about 2 m high remains, with a barrel-vaulted cellar measuring 5 Ă— 3 m. The site of the former fortress and the village centre of Kolomuty are registered as an archaeological site. Jan z Kolomut is documented as a separate historical reference: in 1311, he is recorded as the first member of the local noble family.
Cycle Routes and Getting There
Two routes pass through Kolomuty for cycling trips. Cycle Route 8148 runs along the Klenice. Cycle Route 8155 also passes through the village between Bakov nad Jizerou and Kosořice, and connects to the Greenway Jizera in Bakov nad Jizerou. The routes differ in their specific features: Route 8148 follows the Klenice, while Route 8155 links the two towns and connects to the Greenway in Bakov.
A combined cycle and pedestrian path is planned between Kolomuty and Plazy. It is intended to become part of the cycle network in the eastern part of the Mladá Boleslav agglomeration and to be marked with sign C9a/b.
Kolomuty railway stop is about a 600 m walk from the village centre and around 50 m beyond the municipal boundary, in the neighbouring municipality of Židněves. For orientation, take into account both the distance from the village centre and the stop’s location in Židněves.
