Krásná Ves – Barn, Memorial Cross and Local History

Krásná Ves lies about 9 km west of Mladá Boleslav, in a picturesque landscape. Location and Local History

The first written mention of Krásná Ves dates from between 1184 and 1215, when the place was recorded as a possession of the Archbishopric of Prague. Krásná Ves has borne its present name since 1922. The two dates mark different milestones: the medieval period relates to the first mention in written sources, while 1922 dates the current form of the name. This distinguishes the historical mention of the place from its more recent naming history.

Architectural Traces in the Village

A Baroque barn from the 18th century stands at the eastern edge of the village and survives as a remnant of a former manor farm. Only the barn and the gate remain from the former complex. The barn has an original single-leaf Baroque door. The building thus links the history of the former farm with a specific detail of its Baroque design.

A memorial cross stands almost in the middle of Krásná Ves. Its location differs from that of the barn on the eastern edge of the village, providing a second point of reference in the village landscape. In addition to these buildings, a cultural hall contributes to local cultural life.

Cultural Life and Past Events

Children's events for making Easter decorations took place in April 2025 and March 2026. At the 2025 event, Easter decorations were made from straw. Pumpkin carving for children took place in 2023 and 2025; the 2025 event was combined with a lantern procession. Christmas tree-lighting events were held on 2 December 2023 and 29 November 2025. In the vicinity of Krásná Ves, Mladá Boleslav Castle offers permanent and temporary exhibitions by the Mladoboleslavsko Museum. The castle's origins date back approximately to the second half of the 10th century. The historical focuses therefore differ: in Krásná Ves, individual surviving parts of a former farm feature in the village landscape, while the castle combines the history of an older building with museum exhibitions.
