When looking for a hotel for a stay in Křečhoř, choosing a focus for your trip can make planning easier: the village combines a rural village centre with remembrance of the Battle of Kolín, the Church of Božího těla and a 20-kilometre cycle route. The themes range from the village layout and architectural history to the memorial on a ridge and the route that reaches it.

Village Centre and Layout

The village centre is characterised by spacious agricultural farmsteads, and its main axis links the village square and the church. The distinctive feature is therefore both the rural character of the buildings and the connection between two central places. If you would also like to take in the overall layout of a village during your stay, this offers a different focus from visiting a single monument. For planning your trip, the village centre represents the village layout, while the battle memorial commemorates a specific event.

The Battle of Kolín and the Memorial

The Battle of Kolín took place on 18 June 1757 and is closely connected with Křečhoř. The Památník Bitvy u Kolína memorial stands on a ridge near the village. The monumental neoclassical structure is made of Hořice sandstone. A newly built staircase provides access to the memorial. The complex includes an ossuary—a place for storing human bones—with the remains of soldiers found there. The date places the battle in its historical context; the memorial’s location on the ridge provides a specific local focal point for remembrance.

Church of Božího těla

The Church of Božího těla offers a different perspective on architectural history. It was originally built as a Gothic church in the early 14th century and was remodelled in 1846–1848 in the late Empire style. Early Gothic sedilia and a sacrament house have been preserved in the presbytery. Sedilia are seats in the presbytery; here, the term refers to a specific feature of the church interior. The grounds include an active cemetery with graves and tombs. Unlike the neoclassical battle memorial, the church combines a Gothic foundation with a later remodelling in the late Empire style. Its construction phases and preserved interior details give the church its own distinct architectural focus.

Cycle Route and Views

For a trip on two wheels, there is the 20-kilometre cycle route “Cyklovýlet po stopách bitvy u Kolína” (“Cycle trip in the footsteps of the Battle of Kolín”). It leads to the Battle of Kolín memorial near Křečhoř, and the name of the route also reflects its historical theme. When visibility is good, the memorial offers panoramic views across the entire Polabí Plain. The route thus combines remembrance of the battle with a scenic highlight at its destination. Before setting out, it is advisable to check the route and signposting, as road conditions and wayfinding may change.

Hillfort Site

The Křečhoř hillfort site is listed as an immovable cultural monument. This adds another aspect of protected cultural heritage to the architectural history and remembrance of the battle. Those interested in a variety of historical subjects can also include this site in their travel plans.
