Krňany: Hiking Trails, River Landscapes and Local History
Accommodation in Krňany
Visitors planning a stay in Krňany can choose where to stay based on specific landscape and cultural features: the river landscape near the confluence of the Vltava and Sázava rivers, the hiking trails around Třebsín, and protected local monuments. The municipality comprises the cadastral areas of Krňany, Třebsín and Teletín, making it possible to associate several of the features described here with a specific part of the municipality. Třebsín is a hub for the Posázavská stezka and other routes in the middle Vltava area; from there, a yellow-marked trail leads to Smetanova vyhlídka. The viewpoint, located near Třebsín, is named after Bedřich Smetana. Třebsín is also home to a chapel with a bell turret, which has been a protected monument since 3 May 1958. In Teletín, the listed chapel houses a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk; the Chlistov farm in Teletín is associated with the history of strawberry growing. Old timber-floaters’ trails are visible in Krňany and protected as monuments.
Landscape Between the Vltava and Sázava Rivers
Krňany is located near the confluence of the Vltava and Sázava rivers. In places, the rivers have carved a distinctive landscape of steep, deeply incised rocky banks in the surrounding area. The municipality lies within the Střed Čech Nature Park.
The Kobylí dráha Nature Reserve also extends partly into the municipality. It has the character of a gorge-like slope and is rich in warmth-loving plant species. Kobylí dráha adds a distinctive landform and a botanical aspect to the river landscape.
Hiking Trails and a Viewpoint near Třebsín
Třebsín is a hub for the Posázavská stezka and other popular tourist routes in the middle Vltava area. One specific hike follows a yellow-marked trail from Třebsín to Smetanova vyhlídka.
Smetanova vyhlídka is located above the Štěchovice Reservoir. From there, you can look across to the opposite bank, where the Ztracená naděje tramp settlement is situated. The viewpoint is named after Bedřich Smetana, who cherished this place.
Protected Trails, Chapels and the History of Strawberry Growing
Old timber-floaters’ trails are still visible in Krňany and protected as monuments. This brings local cultural heritage into focus alongside the hiking trails.
In Teletín, the listed chapel houses a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. Třebsín has a chapel with a bell turret that is protected as a monument: it has had protected status since 3 May 1958, while the chapel itself probably dates from the second half of the 18th century.
Strawberry growing is another aspect of the area’s history. In 1912, Rudolf Strimpl, manager of the Chlistov farm in Teletín, brought planting material for field strawberries from the United States to the Krňany area. Strawberry growing developed there as a result.
