Libeř can be explored through a range of features: the Gothic Church of St. Giles, a historically significant archaeological town center, a protected stone road bridge, and trails along the Záhořanský Brook. These architectural and landscape features, along with the cycling and hiking routes described here, offer practical points of reference when choosing a destination.

Church, Bridge and Local History

The small Church of St. Giles is a protected Gothic religious building dating from the 14th century. Its authentic medieval appearance has been preserved, with very few later structural changes. The age of the building and its state of preservation are therefore two distinct aspects of its architecture.

The church has a single nave and a tower above the west façade. At the other end, the polygonal presbytery completes the building. The presbytery is the choir area; “polygonal” describes its many-sided end. This makes it possible to understand the basic layout and the position of both architectural features without specialist terminology: a nave, the tower on the west façade, and the choir area at the opposite end.

Libeř’s architectural heritage also includes a protected stone road bridge with two segmental arches. A segmental arch is a circular arc spanning less than a semicircle; the term refers to a flatter arch shape than a semicircle. Alongside the religious building, this is a structure with a different function and construction. If you plan to visit the bridge, check its condition and access beforehand, as both may change.

The medieval and modern-era town center is also an archaeological site. Archaeological finds have been documented there or can reasonably be expected. This designation therefore encompasses not just a single building, but the town center and its historical significance.

Landscape and Trails Along the Záhořanský Brook

A wooded ridge rises in Libeř south of the Záhořanský Brook. The stream and the higher-lying woodland are two distinct landscape features that offer a broader view of the surroundings if you are interested in the scenery as well as local history.

The Cyklostezka Psáry–Libeř–Libeň, described on May 4, 2021, starts in Libeř at the bridge over the Záhořanský Brook. From there, the cycling route follows the stream, passing the football field and the fire-water reservoir on its way to the Mordýřka pond. At the pond, the route splits: one branch leads to the Mordýřka settlement, while the other heads east toward Psáry. The description thus identifies both notable points along the way and the route at the fork. As trail conditions and access may change, it is advisable to check for current information before setting out.

A different type of route is described for hiking: a 15 km circular hike in the Přírodní park Střed Čech (Central Bohemia Nature Park) can start in Libeř. The route description was published in 2025 and updated in 2026; conditions may change seasonally. An itinerary documented in 2025 also mentions a blue-marked hiking trail along the Záhořanský Brook. This notes the trail’s course alongside the stream, while the circular hike is described by its length and loop format. The details therefore differ in practical terms: the cycling route is described by its course and the fork at the pond, while the circular hike is identified by its stated distance.
