Lobeč combines the technical history of brewing with themes related to Eduard Štorch and a historic collection of castle and church buildings. If you are looking for hotels in Lobeč, these different points of interest can shape your choice of destination: you may be interested in brewing traditions, discover Štorch through the exhibition and educational trail, or explore the architectural history of the local landmarks.

Brewery History in the Kokořínsko Region

The steam-powered brewery in Lobeč is a technical monument and bears witness to five hundred years of brewing tradition in the Kokořínsko region. Two perspectives come together here: steam power gives the site a technical dimension, while its long brewing tradition places it in a regional context. Those interested in cultural history will find a concrete point of reference that goes beyond the history of a single building.

Eduard Štorch: Exhibition and Educational Trail

The exhibition at the Eduard Štorch Museum presents him as a progressive educator and innovator in education, researcher, amateur archaeologist, writer and rebel. On display are personal belongings, correspondence, notes, illustrations, teaching aids and a library. This wide range of materials offers different ways to learn about him: it includes both personal and written records, as well as items related to his educational work.

An educational trail dedicated to Eduard Štorch passes through places associated with the novel Minehava and includes life-size replicas of some of his teaching methods. The two experiences thus differ: the exhibition brings together objects and working materials, while the trail focuses on connections to the novel and reconstructed teaching methods. Eduard Štorch’s grave is also in the local cemetery, where visitors can look for it.

Castle and Church: Different Building Periods

The Lobeč castle complex, with its farmyard and park, has been an immovable cultural monument since 1966. Jan Ignác Věžník remodelled the castle in the Baroque style in 1724; it has largely retained this form to the present day. The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross offers a different historical point of reference: originally Gothic, it was mentioned as a parish church in the 14th century, remodelled around 1532 and later renovated in the Baroque style. While the castle’s history highlights the 1724 remodelling and its largely preserved Baroque form, the church’s history spans several periods separated in time.

Walking Route and Masopust

A blue hiking route from the direction of Mšeno passes through the Lobeč village conservation area. Its stated direction and route through the conservation area provide a practical point of reference for finding your way while hiking.

Lobeč Masopust also offers a cultural point of interest. The 2025 edition of the traditional festival included a masked procession through the village, with stops at neighbours’ homes, the brewery and the castle, followed by entertainment at Sokolovna. Places to Stay and Eat

The painstakingly reconstructed castle now serves as a guesthouse. For a meal, the taproom at Pivovar Lobeč is another option: it serves traditional Czech cuisine and its own craft-brewed beer. As opening arrangements may change, check whether the offer is currently available before your visit.
