Jungbunzlau offers a range of visitor interests, including the history of the Škoda automobile company, the castle and museums, aviation, and attractions specifically aimed at children. You can plan your trip around your personal interests and combine historic sites, exhibitions and activities. When planning, remember to treat tours of the production facilities as a separate item on your itinerary: these must be booked in advance.

Škoda history and tours

The Škoda Muzeum opened in 1995 to mark the 100th anniversary of the automobile company’s founding. It is located in former production buildings dating from 1899 to 1911. A visit to the museum thus brings together two points in time: the anniversary that prompted its opening and the buildings’ former industrial use.

Tours of Škoda’s production facilities in Mladá Boleslav are available Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. They must be booked several days—and sometimes even weeks—in advance. Plan this visit separately and check the current time slots and booking conditions before you travel.

Castle, city history and Templ

The origins of “Mladoboleslavský hrad” Castle date back to the second half of the 10th century and are linked to the establishment of a fortified settlement. The Muzeum Mladoboleslavska hosts permanent and changing exhibitions in the castle’s rooms. An exhibition on the region’s history covers rural administration, social life and celebrations, folk costumes and rural interiors. Its topics also include industry and transport, agricultural production, and small-scale urban and rural trades.

The Městský palác Templ offers another perspective on the city’s history. It is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Jungbunzlau and a rare example of a late Gothic urban noble residence. The building houses an archaeological museum exhibition. The permanent multimedia exhibition traces the city’s history from prehistoric times to the year 1600.

Aviation and hands-on activities

The Letecké muzeum Metoděje Vlacha is dedicated to aviation from its beginnings to the present day. It features 28 historic aircraft, including originals and replicas; 22 are fully operational and fly. In addition to the collection, there are two simulators for open-cockpit biplanes. Visitors can fly them under the supervision of a pilot. If you want to plan a simulator session, check availability in advance.

Things to do for children

Two attractions combine different themes for children. In the Veverkov area of Lesopark Štěpánka, there is an educational trail designed specifically for children. A short walk leads to ten stations made entirely of wood, about squirrels and other forest inhabitants. At Městský palác Templ, the Parkán is designed as an interactive playground where children can also try their hand at the work of archaeologists. Forest themes and archaeological activities thus offer different points of interest for planning your trip.
