History from prehistoric times to the founding of the village
Nová Ves U Bakova was founded in the second half of the 16th century by the Lords of Zvířetice. Archaeological finds from the cadastral area date back much further: in 1908, Eduard Štorch and Karel Sellner discovered a Stone Age flint blade there. Seven Late Bronze Age urnfields have also been discovered in the cadastral area. The finds differ in type and number: a single flint blade contrasts with seven urnfields. In chronological terms, they cover the Old Stone Age and the Late Bronze Age; both predate the village’s 16th-century founding. The archaeological finds belong to the cadastral area; the founding concerns the history of the village itself.
Landscape and natural features
The Lovotín forest, with the Zlodějka Cave, is located in the cadastral area of Nová Ves U Bakova. Local traditions associate the cave with the famous bandit Václav Babinský, who is said to have stayed there.
Rečkov is home to the largest population of Siberian ragwort (Ligularia sibirica) in the Czech Republic. The area comprises transitional mires, quaking bogs, and base-rich fens.
Commemorative plaque to Alois Štorch
Another historical trace is the commemorative plaque to Alois Štorch. It is located on the gable of a family house at Nová Ves U Bakova 38. Its inscription states that he was executed by Austrian executioners in Riva on 5 July 1918. This makes it possible to distinguish clearly between the memorial site and the event it commemorates: the plaque is in Nová Ves U Bakova, while the inscription names Riva as the place of execution.
