When planning a trip to Bojanovice and Prague, historical traces and natural connections to the Kocába take center stage. The town’s history includes a mention recorded in 1107. Historical landmarks include the Chapel of St. Francis Seraphicus of Assisi and a memorial to the victims of the First and Second World Wars. The landscape includes the Kocába Valley, two biocentres described in different ways, and a blue-marked hiking trail through Bojanovice.

Monastic history and historical sites

A mention of Bojanovice is recorded in the land registers for 1107. At that time, Prince Svatopluk gave the village to the Ostrov Monastery near Davle. Bojanovice remained connected to the monastery until the Hussite Wars. In 1657, Abbot Matouš Ferdinand Zoubek of Billenberk recovered Bojanovice for the order. The town’s history therefore features both an early gift and a later recovery for the order.

The Chapel of St. Francis Seraphicus of Assisi was completed in 1879 and is listed in the register of movable cultural monuments. In the centre of the village, below the chapel, stands a memorial to the victims of the First and Second World Wars. The chapel and the memorial highlight different aspects of history: the former is dedicated to St. Francis Seraphicus of Assisi, while the latter commemorates the victims of both world wars.

The Kocába, biocentres and recreation

Bojanovice lies in the Kocába River basin, and the Kocába Valley in Bojanovice offers opportunities for recreation. One specific natural feature is the functional “V Kocábě” biocentre: it covers 3.03 hectares in the cadastral area of Bojanovice and is described as a wet, flower-rich meadow by the Kocába River. The river basin situates Bojanovice within the river landscape, whereas “V Kocábě” refers to a specific biocentre in the cadastral area, described as a wet, flower-rich meadow.

Another type of landscape is the functional “Doubrava Hvozdy” forest biocentre. 1.39 hectares of it lie within the Bojanovice study area. The two area figures have different spatial references: 3.03 hectares is the area of “V Kocábě,” while 1.39 hectares is the portion of “Doubrava Hvozdy” that lies within the study area. This distinguishes the meadow and forest landscapes without treating the figures as total areas measured on the same basis.

Hiking trail and local roads

A blue-marked hiking trail passes through Bojanovice. Check the current trail markings locally before setting out. Purpose-built local roads also lead to the recreational areas. The distinction is useful for navigation: the hiking trail marking applies to a route through Bojanovice, while the local roads lead to recreational areas. These are different routes that you can take into account separately when planning.
