Roztoky offers different ways to explore history and culture: Archevita focuses on prehistory, exhibitions present historic domestic culture and the Ateliér Zdenky Braunerové, while educational trails and a digitally enhanced self-guided tour offer additional formats. If you are planning a hotel stay, these highlights can help guide your trip planning. Consider whether you are particularly interested in archaeological displays, the history of villas or routes with specific stops.

Archevita: Prehistory Through Different Media

Archevita is a multimedia archaeological exhibition about prehistory. It features true-to-scale reconstructions of prehistoric dwellings, archaeological finds and reconstructed burial structures. Different types of displays are presented side by side: reconstructed dwellings and burial structures, as well as archaeological objects. This gives you different ways to explore life in prehistoric times.

The exhibition is supplemented by holographic projections, video mapping and interactive educational activities at information kiosks. The digital and interactive elements expand the presentation of archaeological topics. If you are interested in prehistory, Archevita offers not only reconstructions and finds, but also multimedia ways to explore the subject within an exhibition.

Domestic Culture and Atelier History

The Život v letovisku exhibition explores furnishings, home accessories, tableware and examples of historical fashion. The items on display are contemporary or historic and often come from villas in Roztoky. The collection brings domestic culture to life through specific objects: you can explore different aspects of furnishing and everyday life rather than focusing solely on buildings.

The Ateliér Zdenky Braunerové has a different focus. The exhibition features restored doors, shutters and wooden-beamed ceilings in their original colors and surface finishes. It also includes a collection of more than seventy paintings by Zdenka Braunerová. The architectural details and paintings offer two different perspectives on the exhibition.

The Ateliér has a special visiting requirement: from April to October, it is accessible only on a guided tour, Wednesday through Sunday. If you plan to visit this exhibition, check the seasonal guided-tour access again before your trip.

The Villa History of Tiché údolí

Villas for summer stays were built in Roztocké Tiché údolí as early as after 1851. In terms of its history, the valley is the oldest place of this kind of villa resort. This history adds a specific context to the exhibited household objects: while furniture, tableware and fashion show individual aspects of domestic life, the development of the villas points to the history of summer stays in the valley.

Educational Trails and a Self-Guided Tour

The Roztocký háj – Tiché údolí educational trail runs through the nature reserves. The Levý Hradec educational trail is 800 meters long and has eight stops. Its length and number of stops give you a clear idea of the scope of this route. When planning, you can distinguish between exhibition visits and an educational trail with clearly specified measurements, without inferring a walking time.

The Paměť města project supports a self-guided tour with QR codes, historical photographs and audio content in a mobile app. Rather than focusing on an exhibition or the stated length of an educational trail, this option is a tour accompanied by images and audio. It offers another way to explore historical topics independently.

For trip planning, you can organize the options by topic and format: Archevita covers prehistory, the exhibitions focus on subjects including art and domestic culture, and the educational trails and Paměť města offer tours with different focuses. Keep the Ateliér’s seasonal guided-tour requirement in mind, and choose the other topics based on what interests you most in Roztoky.
