Příbram District: Brdy, Mining and Culture
Accommodation in Příbram District
In Příbram District, travel ideas range from trails through the Brdy highlands and mining history to castle culture and water activities. When planning your trip, the key is deciding which experiences you want to shape your stay: getting active on marked trails, spending a day at a museum, exploring historic architecture or spending time at the Orlík Reservoir.
Brdy: marked trails and practical information
The Brdy Protected Landscape Area has been protected as a landscape conservation area since 2016. Marked tourist trails run through the Brdy highlands on foot and by bicycle. This makes both hiking and cycling options for exploring the landscape.
On the Brdy trails, do not expect snack stalls, souvenir stands, toilets or rubbish bins. Basic visitor facilities are generally available in the villages at the access points. This distinction is useful when planning: the trails themselves and the villages with basic facilities serve different purposes during a visit.
Obecnice has free parking for up to 300 cars, with access from there towards Tok, Jordán, Třemošná and Klobouček. Orlov u Příbrami offers visitor parking near the Brdy Protected Landscape Area, with access towards Třemošná and the central part of the Brdy highlands. Třemošná is a destination in both access directions; the other areas mentioned differ. Parking capacity and access information may change, so check the latest details before setting out.
Mining history and cultural heritage
The Příbram Mining Museum features historic mining buildings and underground workings associated with silver, uranium and other ores. The Nový Knín Gold Museum focuses on gold mining, local crafts and industrial history; gold panning championships are also among its topics. Together, the two museums offer different perspectives on mining and industrial history.
The exhibitions at Březnice Castle explore the history of noble families and art styles from the Renaissance through the 19th century. The castle’s Lokšany Library was founded in 1558 and is one of the oldest libraries in Bohemia. The castle also has a Renaissance garden and an English-style park. Březnice’s cultural heritage thus encompasses exhibitions and library history as well as gardens and parkland.
The Svatá Hora complex is open for individual visits; check the current visiting conditions before your trip. A covered staircase connects the centre of Příbram with Svatá Hora. The Coronation Altar is about 365 steps away. The staircase thus connects two specific landmarks for anyone wishing to combine a visit to Příbram with a walk to Svatá Hora.
Nature trail, viewpoints and water activities
The Fabiánova Nature Trail connects sights in Podbrdy and is intended for tourists and cyclists. It offers a regional route that focuses on linking the sights. Another route idea leads to the Pilská Dam: it takes you to a seating area with a view above the water and then on to a wildlife enclosure.
Activities at the Orlík Reservoir include boating, rowing, pedal boating, surfing and more. Orlík boat services offer sightseeing cruises to Zvíkov Castle and Orlík Castle. Check the timetable before your trip, as the transport service may not always be available.
