Rokytovec combines a long local history with a rural setting. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, these local themes may influence your choice of destination. The focus is on the history of the fortress, the central granary and a theatrical backdrop from 1920; fields and a forest with the ƘehnickĂœ potok complete the picture. This gives you two distinct points of interest for planning your trip: the cultural history of the town and the landscape.

History between Fortress and Granary

The first written mention of Rokytovec dates from 1322, when Mikota of Rokytovec is named. In 1556, Václav Procek of Cetně had the fortress of Rokytovec built. These dates point to two distinct milestones: the town’s early appearance in written records and, later, the construction of a fortress. Together, they provide a historical timeframe for the town that goes beyond a single landmark.

After the fortress lost its significance, it was probably demolished or converted into a granary. The centrally located granary is 8.5 metres wide and 24.5 metres long; its older section measures 17.5 metres. It is therefore almost three times as long as it is wide, and the older section accounts for a little over two-thirds of its total length. A cellar from the former fortress may also have survived in the centrally located granary. This makes the granary a place where the architectural history of Rokytovec and the possible history of the fortress intersect.

Theatre and Amateur Drama

Another cultural trace is the theatrical backdrop in Rokytovec. It was painted in 1920, is titled “SetkĂĄnĂ vesničanĆŻ s MĂșzami” and was created by the academic painter Karel Boháček. The Czech title can be understood as “The Meeting of Villagers with the Muses.” The local amateur drama group is also part of the town’s theatrical history; its performances were well attended by locals and people from the surrounding area. The backdrop and the performances represent two different aspects: a single created work and a former community theatre tradition. The distinction is clear: the backdrop is defined by its year, title and artist, while the amateur drama group is characterised by its performances and the response they received.

The dates represent distinct historical periods: 234 years separate the first written mention in 1322 from the construction of the fortress in 1556. The theatrical backdrop from 1920 belongs to a much later period. The local themes therefore do not represent a single historical era, but several points in time separated by long intervals.

Fields and Forest in the Surroundings

Rokytovec is surrounded by fields on three sides. To the northwest lies a flat forest, through which the ƘehnickĂœ potok flows. These two details operate at different spatial scales: the fields frame the town on several sides, while the description of the forest specifies a particular direction. This is useful for understanding the surroundings, as it distinguishes the open landscape from a forest-and-stream feature in a specific location. In this way, the landscape complements the cultural focus with a sense of place.
