Semtěš lies at the foot of the Železné hory range. Preserved traces of a fortified Iron Age settlement, the Bašta tower of Semtěš Fortress and a Reformed Church give the village links to several historical periods. There is also a route around Semtěš, a cycling route and a blue-marked walking trail. If you choose a destination based on its history or activities for the day, you can consider these themes separately; a telephone appointment is required to visit Bašta.

Local history across several periods

Traces of a fortified Iron Age settlement have been preserved in Semtěš. A much later period is represented by the fortress tower: Bašta was built in the 14th century as part of a lordly residence. The Reformed Church was added in the 19th century, while Pelíškova síň was built in 1935 and later used as a winter prayer room. This sequence makes the village’s historical focus easy to follow, even though the features do not all belong to the same period.

Bašta and its viewing point

The tower known as Bašta is 22 metres high, prism-shaped and built of dark rubble stone. It was reconstructed in 1997–1998 and converted into a lookout tower. From there, panoramic views extend over the Železné hory and the surroundings of Čáslav. The same building thus brings together its medieval origins and its later function as a lookout point in a clear chronological sequence. Bašta can be visited by prior telephone appointment; the keys are held by a local caretaker. Arrange this before you arrive.

The church and dated landmarks

The Reformed Church in Semtěš was built in 1860–1862 and formally opened on 15 September 1867. Its organ dates from 1915. The construction period, opening and year of the organ provide three precise historical reference points, distinct from the medieval dating of Bašta. This makes it possible to consider the church’s history as a separate part of a visit to the village.

Walking and cycling routes

The Stezka rytíře Rubína trail leads around Semtěš. Each stop has a description, a picture and an activity. Visitors receive a worksheet as part of the admission fee; those who complete the activities get small rewards. As programme details may change, check the information before your visit.

Cycling route 4188 is rated easy and runs along the Řečany nad Labem–Semtěš section via Podhořany to Pařížov. A blue-marked walking trail connects Semtěš with Sovoluská Lhota; trail conditions may change. Check the route before setting out.

The options differ in form and purpose: the Stezka loops around the village and offers activities at its stops, cycling route 4188 has a difficulty rating and a named route, and the walking trail connects to Sovoluská Lhota. This lets you plan your day around the activity that interests you.

Choose Semtěš as your destination

If you are looking for a hotel in Semtěš, you can first decide what you want to focus on: local history around Bašta and the church, the trail with activities, or a cycling or walking route. This helps you narrow down your destination before comparing individual hotel offers.
