Skryje: Trilobite Trail, Museum and Church of the Archangel Michael
Accommodation in Skryje
Skryje’s defining features include the Church of the Archangel Michael and the geological trail “Po stopě trilobita.” The museum also features exhibitions about life in Skryje and archaeological research at nearby Týřov Castle. This brings architecture, local life, geology and trails together as different points of interest to help you plan your stay.
The church as a building and landmark
The Church of the Archangel Michael is an elongated Baroque church with richly articulated architecture. It has a single nave and a prismatic tower on its western façade. “Single-nave” describes a building with one nave; the tower is a distinctive feature of the western façade. The church is a landmark in views of Skryje from the north and east. Those interested in sacred architecture can consider the building’s form, its façade detail and its impact on the townscape together.
Exhibitions at the Joachim Barrande Memorial
The Joachim Barrande Memorial has been housed in a former school building since 1997. The ethnographic exhibition “Life in Skryje” is on the ground floor. There is also an archaeological exhibition about Prof. DurdĂk’s research at nearby Týřov Castle. The two exhibitions have different focuses: one explores life in Skryje, while the other presents archaeological research at the castle. Children can also find their own fossilized trilobite fossil at the memorial. Exhibition details and participation conditions may change; check the latest information about the exhibition and fossil activity before your visit.
Geology on the trail: “Po stopě trilobita”
The geological trail starts at the museum in Skryje and ends at the car park by the church. Along the route are comic-style information panels, climbing features, viewpoints and viewing holes. These stops appeal to different interests: you can explore the panels, take in the viewpoints or try the climbing features. There is also a chance to find a fossil in the scree above the Skryje Bridge. A hiking route leads from Skryje via the trail to Týřov National Nature Reserve. This means the trail, which ends at the church, is distinct from the longer hiking route to the reserve. Before setting out, check local information about the installations and the conditions along the route.
On foot or by bike
Cycle Route 0048 passes through Skryje, heads toward the bridge and then follows the left bank of the Berounka to Roztoky u Křivoklátu. On foot, a hiking route leads via the geological trail to Týřov National Nature Reserve; the cycle route names Roztoky u Křivoklátu as its destination. Their different directions help you distinguish the two routes by their respective courses. Check the route number and trail signs before setting out by bike.
SkryjskĂ˝ luh educational trail
As of August 2026, the SkryjskĂ˝ luh educational trail was not being maintained. Check its condition locally before including it in your plans.
