Slustice: Church, Field Paths and Landscape
Accommodation in Slustice
If you are looking for a hotel in Slustice, your particular interests can shape how you experience the place. Sluštice offers several different points of interest: the Church of “sv. Jakuba Většího,” a route along restored field paths, and a predominantly agricultural landscape. There is also a connection to a historical film and the traditional Sluštická pouť.
The Church of “sv. Jakuba Většího” and its building history
The Church of “sv. Jakuba Většího” is a Gothic, single-nave building surrounded by a cemetery wall with a gate. Inside, Baroque ceiling paintings and fragments of Gothic wall paintings have been preserved. The term “single-nave” describes a floor plan with one main nave; the paintings point to different periods of decoration. The building’s design and the surviving works of art thus represent two different aspects of the church’s heritage.
The originally Gothic church was completely rebuilt between 1746 and 1749. Only the masonry of the presbytery, or chancel area, remains from the older building. The dates therefore mark the extensive rebuilding, not the construction of the Gothic church.
The place also has a connection to film history: the former school building No. 53 in Sluštice is known from Jiří Menzel’s film “Slavnosti sněženek.”
Walking paths and regional themes
The “Cesty, které nás spojují” route connects Sluštice with eight other municipalities via a total of 27 kilometres of restored field paths for pedestrians. The walking paths let you choose a suitable route length depending on the difficulty level. When planning, it is helpful to distinguish the 27 kilometres of the overall connection from the length of your specific walk. Along the route, 44 information boards cover the history, culture and natural features of the two regions. The route length and difficulty level can help you choose a walk, while the boards offer insight into regional topics.
Landscape and bodies of water
Sluštice lies on the Pražská plošina, at the boundary between the Středočeská pahorkatina and the Česká tabule. The landscape is predominantly agricultural; smaller parts of the area are covered by Babický les, Klánovický les and Říčanský les. These details place the surroundings within a broader landscape region and describe how the land is specifically used.
Mlýnský rybník borders the eastern edge of the settlement and is used to store water and for fire protection. Local bodies of water also include the Výmola stream and two culverted sections of its tributaries. The landscape features therefore range from the location between two landscape regions to named bodies of water on the edge of the settlement.
Event and travel
The traditional Sluštická pouť features a livestock breeding exhibition and a football tournament. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the date of the event in advance.
Sluštice is connected to the Pražská integrovaná doprava public transport system. For specific connections, it is best to check the timetable for your travel date.
