Watermill and Farmstead
The Štampach watermill is a protected cultural monument and a unique mill complex built on the site of a medieval fortress. The site’s earlier history as a fortress is therefore part of the story of the mill’s location. The remains of the old watermill at Střemy 59 are open to the public. They include rooms and a millrace cut into the rock. The mill site thus brings together interior spaces and a part of the complex carved into the rock. Conditions on private land may change; check the current situation before visiting.
The rural farmstead at Střemy No. 24 dates from the 17th century. It comprises a single-storey, plastered timber-framed residential building and a single-storey masonry residential building. Protected features include the original dwelling house, with a barn in its third section, as well as the enclosed plot. Timber and masonry construction thus take different forms within the farmstead.
Village Square and Architecture
The village centre is a steeply sloping square with a pond, lined with closely spaced farmsteads. On the northwest side of the square stands the single-storey house at Střemy No. 19, an example of Neoclassical architecture. It stands on a high plinth, has a porch and features a simple Neoclassical façade. A semicircular arched gate with pilasters completes the design.
The house at Střemy No. 33 makes a different architectural statement: the two-storey building is a rare example of timber construction. Together, the single-storey Neoclassical house at No. 19 and the two-storey timber building at No. 33 represent different building forms in the village. Along with the sloping square and closely spaced farmsteads, these buildings create a varied picture of village architecture.
