Tehovec: Village History and Nature
Accommodation in Tehovec
Tehovec offers more than one historical perspective: local history, a connection to the Rokytka stream, and the themes of forestry and hiking sit side by side. The dates range from a possible mention in the 14th century to an event in 1866; at the same time, the Klokočná educational trail starts near Tehovec-Vojkov.
History Across Several Periods
A possible first mention of Tehovec is dated to the period from August 11 to 20, 1373. In connection with a church dispute in Prague, Ondřej from “Tehovec” is named, among others. The identification is uncertain, as Tehovičky may have been meant instead. An entry dated March 13, 1407, lists Tehovec among the villages acquired by the Monastery of St. Charles in the New Town. The two references differ: the earlier one concerns a possible mention of the name, while the later one records an acquisition by the monastery. An entry in the Land Tables from 1513 also lists Tehovec with two ponds.
Tehovec belonged to an estate that was sold to Prince Karl of Liechtenstein in 1623. His family held the estate until the land reform after the First World War. The fire of April 28, 1866, destroyed the farmsteads at house numbers 1 to 9, 14, 19, and 23, as well as the barns at houses 1, 2, 9, and 14.
A craft tradition is also part of the recorded history. According to the tradition of Podlipany, Tehovec once had an important pottery industry and weekly markets for pottery.
Water, Forest, and Trails
The Rokytka stream rises near Tehovec. This geographical connection offers a different way to approach the village than the historical records about ownership and events. If you would rather focus on nature than village history when planning your trip, you can also take an interest in the area’s trails and forestry.
PSB Klokočná is a demonstration site run by the State Forest Administration for the environmentally considerate management of state forests. It is intended for both professionals and the general public. Forestry is therefore the focus here, distinguishing it from the village chronicle and its changing historical themes.
The Klokočná educational trail starts near Tehovec-Vojkov, at the beginning of the yellow-marked hiking route along the Prague–Kutná Hora road. If you plan to take the trail, check its status locally: conditions may have changed. This keeps the specific information about the starting area separate from the question of the route’s current condition.
A Dated Event on the Village Square
On April 30, 2024, a maypole was traditionally erected on the village square and a witches’ bonfire was held. This date adds a specific recent event to the historical references reaching further back. Together, these different themes show whether your trip plans are driven more by local history, forestry, or a hiking trail.
