Accommodation in Ujkovice
In Ujkovice, fortress history, ponds and marked hiking trails stand side by side as distinct aspects of the village. The only registered immovable cultural monument is the archaeological remains of a fortress. There are five ponds in Ujkovice. Two marked trails lead in different directions: one runs along the northern edge of the village and continues to Ledce; the other heads west to the Borečovský and Kabát ponds, then on to Rabakov.
Fortress, History and Railway
The fortress site lies north of the farmyard, on the edge of a terrain terrace. A ditch protects the site on three sides, with a slope on the north side. The fortress was probably built at the beginning of the 14th century. It was still mentioned as standing in 1517; in the following decades, it was described as abandoned.
The recorded history of Ujkovice begins in 1088 under its former name, Hejkovice. Some older residents still occasionally use this name today. The former Dětenice–Dobrovice railway line is also part of the area's transport history. It was a single-track local railway and was originally privately owned by Count Thurn-Taxis. Freight services began in 1883, and passenger services in 1902. The line was nationalized in 1908. Passenger services ended in 1970, and the line was closed in 1974.
Ponds and Landscape
An oak tree in Ujkovice is also documented with specific measurements: on May 19, 2011, its recorded trunk circumference at a height of 1.3 meters was 840 centimeters. Its age is estimated at about 500 years.
The largest of the five ponds lie on the Hasinský stream. Borečovský covers 8.2 hectares, and Kabát 5.1 hectares, making Borečovský 3.1 hectares larger. The Kabát and Borečovský pond system, registered as an HKS, covers 42.9 hectares in the cadastral areas of Ujkovice and Domousnice. It lies below a wooded slope and includes wetland and meadow communities, reed beds, groups of trees and riparian woodland. The area is rich in species and important as a zoological site.
The western edge of the Dymokursko Site of Community Importance (CZ0210101) extends into southeastern Ujkovice. Within the municipality, the site covers 59.54 hectares; its total area is 4,309.24 hectares.
Marked Hiking Trails
A marked hiking trail runs along the northern edge of Ujkovice and continues via the former military hospital, a recreational area and the former Karlovec forester's lodge to Ledce. The route thus passes both former facilities and another destination.
Another marked hiking route heads west from Ujkovice to the Borečovský Pond and Kabát Pond. It then runs east around both ponds and continues to Rabakov. The two routes differ in direction and in the stops listed: the northern trail passes through Karlovec to Ledce, while the western route includes both ponds.
