Dolní Vidim is the valley-side part of Vidim, focused primarily on recreation. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Dolní Vidim, local route connections and traces of history can help guide your choice of destination.

The district and its routes

Cycling route No. 0012 runs through Dolní Vidim, mostly along third-class roads, and connects the village with Dobřeň to the east. The locations of individual historic sites in relation to marked routes also vary: Starý zámek lies directly on the blue-marked hiking trail and about 50 metres from the cycling route. The rock-niche chapel lies directly on the blue hiking trail and cycling route No. 0012.

The wooden bell tower is also directly on the cycling route, but lies about 300 metres from the blue- and green-marked hiking trails. If you include hiking trails in your plans, check their current condition on site.

Rocks and historic buildings

Starý zámek consists of modest remains of a rock castle, probably founded in the 13th century. The surviving features include a room hewn into the rock, a cistern and beam sockets. Elsewhere in Dolní Vidim’s sandstone bedrock, there are also dug-out cellars and rock dwellings. Together, these varied traces show the role rock plays in the local built heritage.

The rock-niche chapel and its surroundings are well maintained. Nearby, there are places to sit and rest or enjoy quiet reflection. The wooden bell tower is operational and in very good technical condition; its surroundings are also well maintained. During your visit, check the current trail conditions, available seating and the condition of the bell tower.

Most of Vidim’s two-storey log and half-timbered houses are located in Dolní Vidim. House No. 67 is a two-storey log house with a three-part, two-wing floor plan of the so-called stable type. Its timber core is dated to 1792—the date refers to the timber core, not generally to the entire house. As of 26 March 2026, Dolní Vidim is part of the Vidim Village Heritage Conservation Area. Starý zámek and House No. 67 represent different periods: the rock castle was probably founded in the 13th century, while the house’s timber core is dated to 1792. Together, they span several centuries of local architectural history.

Hands-on insights into traditional crafts

A programme listing from Ekocentrum Koniklec, available in August 2026, associates “Zaniklá řemesla” (“Vanished Crafts”) with the House of Vanished Crafts, house number 78 in Dolní Vidim. The practical activities it lists are bread baking and butter churning. If these activities are a deciding factor in your travel plans, check before your visit whether they are offered on your chosen date.
