The Sázava flows through Vlastejovice. If you are looking for a hotel, you can plan your stay around these themes: the Posázavská Cycling Route No. 19 runs through the village, while Fiolník and the historic Dům s kaplí offer further insights into the destination.

The Sázava and Fiolník

Mount Fiolník rises to 526 metres northeast of Vlastejovice; the name Fialník is also used. The mountain contains a magnetite deposit with an iron content of more than 60 percent. The surrounding area therefore brings together a riverside landscape and a striking example of geology.

On a broader regional scale, the Sázava is 218 kilometres long. Of this, 208 kilometres are navigable, though not year-round. These figures indicate the overall scale of the river; for Vlastejovice, its location directly on the Sázava is the defining feature.

Cycling, breaks and refreshments

The Posázavská Cycling Route No. 19 runs through Vlastejovice. If you are planning a ride, check local conditions in advance. Nearby, a two-kilometre cycle route leads from Vlastejovice towards Budčice and a weir. There are places to sit and an opportunity to get refreshments there; boat rental is also available at the weir near Budčice. Before setting out, check local conditions for stopping and boat rental as well.

Another section of Cycling Route No. 19 runs along the road from Vlastejovice towards Pertoltice. There is a place to rest and get refreshments at a spring along the way. Use the water as drinking water only if this has been confirmed locally.

Fishing on the Sázava

Fishing is possible on the Sázava in the area around the village. One specifically designated fishing area is SÁZAVA 10, fishing area number 411 081, managed by MO ČRS Vlastějovice. It extends from the weir at Březina near Vlastejovice to the mill weir in Chřenovice. The fishing area is eight kilometres long and covers 28 hectares. These details define the section more precisely than the general reference to fishing on the Sázava. Check the current regulations before fishing.

Local history and architecture

Vlastejovice was first mentioned in 1413 as a village belonging to the parish of Pertoltice. On 1 February 1540, it was granted market-town status. These two dates provide a brief timeline of the village’s early history.

Dům s kaplí is a cultural monument in Vlastejovice. The building was constructed as a fortress in the 16th century and converted into a Baroque château after 1689. The date after 1689 refers to the conversion, not to the original fortress. A low building with the Baroque Chapel of St Mary Magdalene survives from the château.

Fiolník also has a historical dimension: north of Vlastejovice, a Gothic mining church once stood on the mountain; it was closed during the Josephine reforms. Together with the village’s development into a market town and the architectural history of Dům s kaplí, this offers different ways to explore the area’s past.
