A trip to Vrdy can focus on different things, depending on your interests: church architecture and religious art, protected nature, swimming or fishing. The Church of All Saints and the Na Ostrově pond are in Dolní Bučice; the Church of the Holy Trinity and the Zbyslav Mosaic are in Zbyslav.

Churches and traces of history

The Church of All Saints in Dolní Bučice faces east, has a single nave, and is built of rubble and ashlar stone. Its present-day Gothic presbytery dates from the mid-13th century. Its orientation and single-nave layout describe its form, while rubble and ashlar stone describe its materials; the presbytery adds a distinct historical detail. The term refers to the choir area of a church.

The church preserves tombstones from 1560 to 1581 commemorating Jindřich Kobylka and members of his family. They add a later layer of memorial history to the building: alongside its medieval architecture, a family history linked to named individuals is also visible.

The Church of the Holy Trinity in Zbyslav was first mentioned as a parish church in 1352. Its interior preserves Kramolín’s figurative biblical scenes: Abraham and the Angels, the Baptism of Christ, and the Sending of the Apostles. Compared with the Church of All Saints, the emphasis here is on the early reference and the painted scenes; the church in Dolní Bučice is distinguished by its architectural form, presbytery, and tombstones. The selection thus includes one Old Testament story and two New Testament scenes.

Natural monument and protected ensemble

The Zbyslav Mosaic is a protected natural monument within the municipality of Vrdy, located in Zbyslav. It adds a different kind of point of interest to the churches and their history: a protected natural monument in the same place.

The historical architectural heritage also includes the protected ensemble of the former water mill No. 30. It comprises a residential building, a mill building, and the demarcated plots. The ensemble takes the focus beyond a single building: the named buildings and plots together form part of the protected site.

Leisure and fishing

Koupaliště Vrdy has a small pool with a slide. The facilities also include mini golf, beach volleyball, and a small children’s playground. This gives you a choice of water activities, sports, and play when planning your leisure time.

The local fishing organization traditionally holds fishing competitions in April at the Na Ostrově pond in Dolní Bučice. They are open to adults, young people, children, and unregistered anglers. Before planning a specific trip in April, check the latest event announcement. Since regulations and permits may change, check the current rules before fishing.
