If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Xaverov, the village can be understood through its history, landscape and routes through the area. The chapel and cemetery memorials offer a different perspective from the hiking and cycling options. Consider which of these themes you want to shape your trip: the following features can help you assess Xaverov as a destination.

Local History in Two Stages

The site where Xaverov was established was formerly home to the Choratice glassworks. It operated from 1730 to 1746. Another historical milestone followed in 1752: the Prague Jesuit College acquired the estate in Xaverov and renamed it Xaverhof in honour of Saint Francis Xavier. The chronology helps distinguish the history of the glassworks from the estate’s later history. The name Xaverhof is also tied to a specific event: the renaming in 1752.

Chapel and Memorials

A chapel stands on the hill above Xaverov, its appearance defined by three mature horse chestnut trees. The cemetery has two other notable features, distinguished by their locations: a cross depicting Christ stands in the cemetery, while a monument to those who fell in the First World War stands beside it. Together, the chapel and the two memorials offer insight into different aspects of the village, though they do not tell the same story: the chapel is characterized by its location and group of trees, while the cross and monument are distinct memorials at the cemetery.

Landscape and Regional Context

The wooded northern and southern parts of Xaverov’s administrative area form a valuable landscape setting. The landscape in this part of the Benešov region is also suitable for recreation. Mount Blaník is clearly visible from Xaverov. The village is also connected to the Sázava: because of its short distance from the river, Xaverov is often considered part of the central Posázaví region. Two scales therefore sit side by side: the landscape features of the administrative area and the broader regional classification of Posázaví.

Hiking and Cycling Options

A yellow-marked hiking trail runs from west to east through the northern part of Xaverov’s area. Check trail conditions locally before planning your hike. For cycling, there is a different route description: a cycling route passes through Bělokozly to Xaverov and continues to Choratice. Between Xaverov and Choratice, you can also turn onto an approximately 16-kilometre circular route along country lanes. It leads to the Čestín forester’s lodge and Drahňovice. The approximately 16 kilometres refers to this circular route, not the yellow-marked hiking trail. This lets you distinguish between the two options by route type without assuming a distance for the hike.

Getting There and Roads

The route from the D1 motorway to Xaverov is via the exit near Ostředek. The road from Choratice to Xaverov and the roads within Xaverov are used by motor vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. When planning your journey or getting around locally, take the different types of traffic into account and check current road conditions, as they can change.
