There are two main reasons to visit Bílá Třemešná: its local history and outdoor activities. Historical points of interest include a former Renaissance château, a church and a surviving stone memorial. Several cycling routes pass through the town; in winter, there are also cross-country ski trails and a ski slope with a lift. When looking for a hotel, you can plan your trip around whichever of these aspects of the town matters most to you.

Local History in Buildings and Memorials

In 1594, Adam Zilvár of Pilníkov bought Bílá Třemešná and converted the local fortress into a Renaissance château. The château has not survived: František Antonín Harrach had it demolished in 1865–1866. The conversion and demolition mark two important stages in the town’s architectural history.

A Roman Catholic church in the Romanesque style is one of Bílá Třemešná’s significant monuments; it was founded at the end of the 16th century. On the south wall of the Church of St James the Greater is a surviving sandstone memorial stone for Budivoj Třemešský, dating from 1578. Jan Amos Komenský is also associated with the town: during his stay in Bílá Třemešná, he completed his work “Hlubina bezpečnosti.” Architectural history, a specific stone memorial and literary history thus offer different ways to explore the town’s past.

Les Království Reservoir: History and Access

Les Království Reservoir is a national cultural monument. Its construction was decided upon after the severe flood of 1897, and it was completed in 1919. The sequence from the flood to the decision to build and finally to completion gives the reservoir its own historical significance.

The dam and its surroundings are freely accessible via public roads; safety restrictions must be observed. The observation tower at the Les Království exhibition has a separate condition: visitors may enter when conditions are favourable, although access may depend on operating conditions and the weather. If the tower is important to your visit, take these conditions into account when planning.

Cycling and Winter Sports

Several cycling routes pass through Bílá Třemešná. There are two different options in winter: groomed cross-country ski trails run from Bílá Třemešná to the summit of Mount Zvičina; there is also a ski slope with a lift above the town. The trails depend on snow conditions, and the ski slope’s operation may vary. The planning considerations therefore differ: for cross-country skiing, snow conditions along the trails matter; for downhill skiing, conditions for operating the lift matter. If you are visiting for either activity, check the relevant conditions in advance.

Getting There and Finding Accommodation

Bílá Třemešná can be reached by bus from Dvůr Králové. As routes and timetables may change, it is advisable to check your connection before departure. For a bus journey, the timetable is important; for a winter stay, it is snow and lift operations.
