Chvaleč lies on the northern edge of the Rtyňsko-Svatoňovická Basin, close to the Czech-Polish border. Its border location, a named circular trail and historical landmarks give your stay several specific points of interest. Seasonal swimming and winter sports are also available in Chvaleč and Petříkovice. When planning your trip, it is worth considering the landscape and history alongside the time of year you visit.

Nature Trail and Border Landscape

The Chvaleč–Petříkovice nature trail is an approximately 6 km circular route that starts at the parking lot by the swimming pool in Petříkovice. It passes the spring below the rocks and continues to Krausova vyhlídka. This striking rock formation creates the so-called Krausova vyhlídka. The nature trail’s stops describe local sights as well as the local wildlife and plant life. Its circular route, approximate length and named destination make it easy to plan as a separate activity; its stops connect local topics with the natural surroundings.

The Czech-Polish border crosses 697 m-high Janský vrch, which has a nature trail. The route and the mountain offer different points of reference: for the route, the focus is on its approximate length and course; for Janský vrch, on its elevation and border connection.

Church and Historical Traces

In Chvaleč, the Church of St James the Greater is a protected cultural monument; it dates from 1706. A line of historical fortifications dating from 1937 to 1938 runs through Petříkovice. Several of these sites are gradually being renovated as open-air museums. If this is a priority for your visit, check the current renovation status beforehand.

A reconstructed replica of the original chapel was also built in Petříkovice between 2002 and 2008. These dates point to different historical landmarks: a church dating from 1706, fortifications from 1937 to 1938, and a chapel replica built later.

Plan Swimming and Winter Sports by Season

The swimming pool complex in Chvaleč is open from May to the end of September and is located in a quiet part of the municipality towards Adršpach. If swimming is part of your travel plans, you can time your visit accordingly. In Petříkovice, the swimming pool is in the central part of the village. Its facilities include a fire-reservoir pool suitable for swimming, toilets, an outdoor shower, refreshments and a parking lot. Swimming is at your own risk. As facilities may change, check the current information before your visit.

During the seasonal operating period at the Petříkovice ski area, a ski school and a small lift for children and complete beginners operate daily. The area offers well-groomed slopes and family-friendly skiing. Before your visit, check whether the ski school and lift are currently operating.
