Lanzov: Church, Natural Swimming Pool and Historic Traces
Accommodation in Lanzov
In Lanzov, cultural history and activities are distinct travel interests. The Church of St Bartholomew preserves historic architectural and decorative details; there is also a natural swimming pool and cycling routes. If you are looking for a hotel, first consider whether the church complex, the water or outdoor activities should be the focus of your stay.
The Church of St Bartholomew and traces of its past
The protected grounds of the Church of St Bartholomew in Lanžov include an ossuary, a perimeter wall and two masonry gates. The complex therefore comprises more than the church building itself. The church preserves a moulded portal from the original Romanesque church, which was built around 1230. Inside the church is a pewter baptismal font dating from 1555. The complex also includes a chapel of St Apolena, closed on five sides, dating from 1804. The portal, baptismal font and chapel represent different historical details: a surviving architectural ornament, a liturgical object and a separate chapel building.
A column-shaped wayside cross dating from 1684 stands immediately beside the church. The cemetery gate bears reliefs of Štefanik, Rašín and Švehla. The cemetery chapel and entrance gate were granted heritage protection in 1992. The property with the cemetery chapel is privately owned. If you are considering a visit, check access in advance.
Červený Dvůr and local history
Another historic feature in the municipality is Červený Dvůr. It was built beside the former fortress of Červené Poličany and is the only partially preserved manor farm in Lanžov. Thus, as well as the church complex, a manor farm is central to the local history passed down here. For orientation, it is useful to distinguish between the two: the church is characterised by protected structural features and individual furnishings, while Červený Dvůr is a partially preserved manor farm beside a former fortress.
Planning for the natural swimming pool and routes
The Lanžov natural swimming pool has a large 50-metre pool divided into areas of different depths. There is also a smaller pool with a depth of about 50 centimetres. The two pools therefore differ both in their dimensions and in the depth described. Information about the pools may change following renovations. Check the facility’s current condition before your visit.
From Kemp Lanžov, cyclists can join one of the cycling routes directly and ride either into the hilly Podzvičinsko countryside or the flat Polabí landscape. The stated difference between the two directions is the terrain: hilly on one side, flat on the other. If you want to plan your route around this, you can use these two landscapes as a guide when choosing a direction.
Another route is 13 kilometres long and runs from the spa resorts in Velichovky to the pillory in Lanžov. Its route is described via Velichovky, Vilantice, Chotěborky, Sedlec, Miřejov, Lanžov and Dubenec. Check the route and markings locally before setting off. This makes the connection a separate point to consider alongside the cycling routes for which the starting point is described as Kemp Lanžov.
This lets you match your choice of destination to the activities you have planned in Lanzov.
