Rudník – Hiking Trails and Architectural History
Accommodation in Rudník
Rudník combines a preserved foothill landscape of meadows, forests, small streams and marked hiking trails. Panoramic views open up from many places in Rudník, especially of Černá hora, Liščí hora and Světlá hora. Historic buildings are another main attraction. When planning your trip, you can choose between different interests: trails through the landscape or a look at the town’s architectural history.
Hiking Trails and Landscape
Rudník is connected to the marked hiking trail network of the Czech Tourist Club. The 3 km trail from Rudník to Lázně Fořt is an easy walk and suitable for families with children. Until 1922, Lázně Fořt was a spa with a mineral spring reputed to have healing properties. This endpoint also gives the shorter route a historical connection.
For longer hikes, the routes differ mainly in length and destination. The 8 km route leads from Rudník via Javorník to Hertvíkovice through the foothill landscape and offers views of the Krkonoše Mountains. The 10 km route leads to Janské Lázně; a continuation by cable car to Černá hora is planned. Check the cable car timetable in advance. The routes offer different highlights: a hike with views of the Krkonoše Mountains, or a longer route taking in Janské Lázně with a cable car continuation.
The Rudník pump track is another way to get active. It is suitable for beginners as well as experienced riders looking to train their balance, bike control and riding skills. The pump track next to the tennis courts opened on June 28, 2019.
Historic Buildings and Culture
The Church of St. Wenceslas in Rudník is a protected cultural monument. It was originally Gothic and was renovated by Carlo Valmadim between 1598 and 1602. Gravestones from the 16th century remain along the outer perimeter wall. Anyone interested in architectural history will find both Gothic origins and a later renovation here, as well as a specific historical detail on the exterior wall.
The former Renaissance château in Rudník tells a different architectural story: at the beginning of the 19th century, it was extensively converted into a brewery. Renaissance vaults remain in the former brewery. Renaissance sgraffito is visible beneath the flaking façade plaster. This building brings together older architectural elements and a later history of use.
Silbersteinů Castle was built in the Neo-Gothic style and is known as “Little Hluboká.” It can be viewed from the outside while passing by. As private ownership and access conditions may change, check them before visiting.
