If you are looking for a hotel in Vilantice, cycling route 4085 passes through the village. The buildings and village history of Chotěborky add a distinctive cultural dimension; concerts at the Hudební léto Chotěborky festival take place in historic church interiors in Chotěborky and Dubenec. Start by considering whether your trip will focus more on cycling or on architectural and cultural history.

Church and Historic Architecture

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is the most significant architectural monument in Chotěborky and dominates the small village from a hill. A Gothic portal from the first half of the 14th century survives on its south side. Here, a clearly located architectural feature and the church’s prominent position in the village setting stand side by side: the portal is a specific architectural detail, while the hill defines the position of the entire building in the village.

A smaller death bell also hangs in the bell tower. It was donated in July 1928 by the Holan couple from Hustířany. This allows two distinct periods to be identified at the church: the Gothic portal from the 14th century and the bell from the early 20th century.

The column of Saint John of Nepomuk stands in the middle of the village square. It probably dates from 1730; Matyáš Braun or his workshop may have created it. The birthplace of František Xaver Dušek displays a different architectural style: it is a solid Neoclassical building with stucco decoration on the façade. Compared with the Gothic portal, the emphasis here is on the Neoclassical building and its façade ornamentation. This gives you a concrete comparison between a Gothic architectural feature and a Neoclassical house.

The former settlement of Chotěbořice is also part of the area’s history: it was important in the Middle Ages, later disappeared, and only the church complex survived. This transformation makes the surviving church complex an important point of reference in the local history.

Music and Views

The Hudební léto Chotěborky festival is dedicated to Baroque and classical music. In 2026, it will be held for the 32nd time; concerts take place in historic church interiors in Chotěborky and Dubenec. The two villages are therefore part of the concert programme, while the church interiors provide the historic setting. If you are including music in your travel plans, the festival is a specific event highlight.

The Kříž u Chotěborek viewpoint is beside a crucifix and offers views of Zvičina, Podkrkonoší, the Orlické Mountains and Kunětická hora. These named sights give the landscape theme a specific focus. Alongside the details of church architecture, this offers a different perspective: views of several named landscapes and places.
