Discover Asch: Culture and vrch Háj
Accommodation in Asch
Asch combines cultural history with activities on the wooded vrch Háj. This gives you two distinct focal points for your stay: cultural sites in the town and outdoor activities. The ethnographic collection at Muzeum Aš, the Church of sv. Mikuláše, the sports complex, and the Lesmistrova cesta offer specific starting points. Which themes you focus on more can shape how you plan your days in Asch.
Cultural history in Asch
The ethnographic collection at Muzeum Aš is displayed in the former town library and fire station at Poštovní náměstí. As exhibition arrangements may change, check the museum’s current information before your visit.
These offer two distinct cultural perspectives to match your interests: the collection has an ethnographic focus, while the church offers an architectural focus through its construction period, style, and floor plan. This lets you include a museum visit and architectural history as separate themes in your stay.
The Roman Catholic Church of sv. Mikuláše in Aš was built between 1867 and 1872 in the Neo-Renaissance style. It has a single nave, a cruciform floor plan, and a 48-meter-high entrance tower. These terms describe different aspects of the building: “single-nave” describes the church interior with one main nave, “cruciform” describes the layout, and Neo-Renaissance refers to the architectural style. The tower’s height adds a specific measurement to the architectural description.
Activities at vrch Háj
The wooded, 757-meter-high vrch Háj is in the Ašský výběžek. At its summit stands the stone Rozhledna Háj, formerly called Bismarckova. From the top, the tower offers wide views across the landscape. If you plan to climb it, check access information before your trip. Bismarckova is the former name of the same tower.
The sports complex on vrch Háj offers football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, and nohejbal, as well as a six-meter-high climbing wall for beginners and experienced climbers. A track around the complex is used for skating and running, and for cross-country skiing in winter. Cross-country skiing is the track’s explicitly winter use; seasonal conditions may vary.
Lesmistrova cesta is a three-kilometer route on vrch Háj. Its features include playful tasks on information boards, wooden obstacles, and balancing elements. Unlike the track around the sports complex, the route is defined by its distance and playful features, while the track accommodates skating, running, and cross-country skiing in winter. This lets you choose between a route with tasks and obstacles and a track with several uses.
