If you are considering Bulovka as a destination for a hotel stay, its churches, mills and specific route information can help you plan. These include the Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Bulovka, several historic sites in Dolní Oldřiš, a yellow-marked KČT hiking trail and cycling route 3006. When choosing a destination, you can take into account whether you are particularly interested in local history, architecture, hiking or cycling.

Church of St. Michael the Archangel

The Church of St. Michael the Archangel is one of the municipality’s most important local attractions and is recorded in the Frýdlant urbarium of 1381. A cross on a sandstone pedestal stands by the church, behind the churchyard enclosure. It was erected in 1835 using a bequest from Christoph Elstner. The 1381 entry refers to the church; the year 1835 belongs to the cross. The two dates therefore mark different historical points of reference.

Church of St. Martin and historic buildings

In Dolní Oldřiš, the Church of St. Martin is used as a permanent exhibition hall and municipal museum. The gravestone of the knight Abraham von Eberhard, dating from 1612, is also preserved inside. Access is by prior arrangement, so coordinate your visit in advance. The gravestone is a specifically dated piece of evidence within the building, while the exhibition and municipal museum describe its cultural use.

The Horní Mill is documented from 1591 and was used for grinding grain. A preserved mill stands at house number 39 on the Světlý potok near the Polish border. At the Horní Mill, the early record and grain-grinding function are the main points; for house No. 39, its preservation and location by the stream are notable features. House No. 3 in Dolní Oldřiš adds an example of traditional architecture to the mills: it is an upper Lusatian house from the Bohemian-German border region. The term classifies this particular house as a building type from the border region.

The dates also vary: the 1381 entry for the church goes back further than the 1591 record for the mill, the 1612 gravestone and the 1835 cross. Each year refers to a different church, building or object.

Hiking and cycling

The yellow-marked KČT hiking trail branches off via Mount Vyhlídka towards Dolní Řasnice. The trail’s marker color, a named mountain and the stated direction therefore provide specific points of reference for planning your hike. Cycling route 3006 runs from Stráž nad Nisou to Filipovka through the Bulovka area; among other places, it follows paths outside the built-up areas of Dolní Oldřiš and Bulovka. The planning information differs here: the cycling route has two stated endpoints, while the hiking trail highlights the direction via Vyhlídka. Check the trail markers, route and ground conditions before your trip, as signs, route alignments and surfaces may change.

A possible historic site

A water castle is said to have stood beside the former farmyard in Dolní Oldřiš. As a possible former structure, this reference adds a different topic to the local history than the surviving churches, mills and buildings. The cautious wording remains important: the water castle is said to have stood there.
