Fojtka – Reservoir, Nature and Hotels
Accommodation in Fojtka
Fojtka can be explored through several natural features and routes. The entire village of Fojtka lies within the Jizerské hory Protected Landscape Area. Other features include the Fojtecký mokřad Nature Monument, the Fojtka Reservoir and named routes. These features have different focuses: the protected status applies to the whole village, the wetland is about vegetation, and the reservoir combines its location, structure and seasonal use.
Landscape, Wetland and Viewpoint
The Jizerské hory Protected Landscape Area encompasses all of Fojtka. This designation applies to the village as a whole, not just to a single natural site. The Fojtecký mokřad Nature Monument, by contrast, focuses on a specific wetland habitat: it protects high-quality wetland vegetation, where vachty trojlisté is common. Zábělník bahenní is a species listed in the Red List.
The protected area also includes an adjoining wet meadow with the specially protected species prstnatec májový and listenatý. This helps distinguish the natural features more precisely: the Protected Landscape Area encompasses the whole village, while the Nature Monument and wet meadow refer to specific habitats and their vegetation. Dračí vrch offers a different landscape feature: it is 675 metres high and is a viewpoint. Here, the focus is on elevation and its role as a viewpoint, unlike the wetland vegetation.
Fojtka Reservoir: Location, Structure and Swimming
The Fojtka Reservoir is on the Fojtka stream, on the boundary between Mníšek and Fojtka. Its dam is made of rubble masonry and is 146 metres long. The material and length describe the reservoir’s construction, independently of its location on the stream. If you are considering structural features as well as the water when choosing a destination, these details provide a specific point of reference.
The Fojtka Reservoir is used for swimming on summer days. This information is relevant to the time of year if you would like to include swimming in your plans. This use applies to summer days; access and conditions may change. So check the current conditions before visiting if swimming is an important part of your plans.
Cycling Route and Žulovou stezkou
The “U medvěda” cycling route connects Krásná Studánka with Fojtka and links directly in Fojtka to cycling route 3006. These are two specific points of reference for planning a cycling trip: the connection between Krásná Studánka and Fojtka, and the link to route 3006. Signposting and conditions may change; check them before setting off.
Žulovou stezkou has a different focus. It passes the lower crossroads in Fojtka and goes by a former granite quarry. The Fojtka Reservoir is listed as one of the sights along this route. The two routes therefore differ in the points of reference described: “U medvěda” connects villages and links to another cycling route, while Žulovou stezkou is described in terms of the crossroads, the former quarry and the reservoir listed as a sight. Take the conditions on each route into account when planning.
