When choosing a destination for your hotel stay, it helps to consider the topics that interest you during your trip. Horní Řasnice offers several clearly distinct points of interest: an originally Gothic church with uncovered wall paintings, a nature monument with protected wood ants, and the Řasnice stream, where kingfishers live. Other topics include the cultural events organized by the church association and the architectural history of the Chapel of Panny Marie Sněžné in Srbská. This allows you to give different weight to cultural and architectural history, nature, or a specific event date when planning your trip.

Church and Wall Paintings

The Church of Neposkvrněného početí Panny Marie in Horní Řasnice is originally Gothic and dates from the second half of the 13th century; it was later remodeled in the Baroque style. The building therefore brings together a medieval origin and a later Baroque character. Exceptionally valuable wall paintings were uncovered during an examination of the nave and can be dated to the beginning of the 17th century. In medallions framed with ornament, they depict the Creation of Adam and Eve and the Last Judgment. The subjects and their framed presentation give the paintings a specific art-historical focus.

The wall paintings’ visibility may change during restoration work. If you are planning specifically to see them, check in advance whether they are currently visible. Several historical references can thus be distinguished when considering the church: its Gothic origins, its Baroque remodeling, and the paintings from the beginning of the 17th century.

Nature and Terrain

The Kamenný vrch nature monument contains 150 to 300 nests of the protected wood ant species Formica polyctena. New colonies form particularly at the forest edge near the former sand pit. The number of nests may change over time and is therefore not a fixed figure. The site combines the nature theme with a specific landscape feature: the forest edge near the former sand pit. Kingfishers live along the Řasnice stream. This provides two distinct nature themes: a protected ant population and a bird by the stream.

The terrain near Bílá skála is also relevant for orientation: there is no path across the terrain from the road to the location, which lies more than 250 meters from the road. Take this limitation into account when planning, rather than treating the site as a stop directly beside the road.

Cultural Events and Further Architectural History

The church association holds cultural events every year at Easter, Christmas, and on Mother’s Day. It also regularly hosts music ensembles in the church. The program is therefore linked to recurring holidays and musical events; individual dates and events change. If you want to plan your trip around a specific occasion, check the relevant program in advance.

Another specific detail is an iron cross on a stone pedestal. It stands beneath two mature trees near house No. 79 in Horní Řasnice. The Chapel of Panny Marie Sněžné in Srbská offers a different historical reference: the childless couple Magdalena and Josef Legler built it in 1863; it was completed in 1867. The start and completion of construction mark two separate dates in the chapel’s history.

Walk to the Chapel

The chapel can be reached from Jindřichovice p/Smrkem – Skanzen railway station by an approximately one-hour walk through forest and pastureland. The time given is an approximate walking time for this route. If you are considering the railway station for your journey, check train connections separately. This keeps the walk to the chapel and the train journey distinct as two parts of your travel planning.
