Děhylov lies on the northern slopes of one of the easternmost foothills of the Nízký Jeseník. Ponds and the Opava also shape the view of the village: Žabinec is one of the large ponds, and Loděnice lies by the river. Chapels, an educational trail and paths through Dobroslavice add to these different aspects of the destination.

Ponds and floodplain landscape

Žabinec is one of Děhylov’s two large ponds and has been mentioned since the 17th century. The name thus refers to a body of water that is part of both today’s landscape and the village’s older history.

The Děhylovský potok–Štěpán locality lies on the right bank of the Opava, at the boundary between the municipality of Děhylov and the city of Ostrava. It includes a pond basin in the Opava’s broad, flat floodplain, the Děhylovský potok and adjoining wetlands.

Fire-bellied toads, weatherfish and yellow-winged damselflies occur in this locality. Another named waterside spot is Poštovní rybník, which is part of the Jilešovice-Děhylov area. The names Žabinec and Poštovní rybník, along with the wetlands by the Opava, each offer a specific point of reference if you are interested in the waterside landscape.

Cycling path, natural landing and music by the Opava

Loděnice in Děhylov is a riverside restaurant on the Opava with an outdoor seating area. A cycling path runs along the right bank of the Opava by Loděnice. This places the restaurant and the riverside cycling path in the same setting, with the path following the riverbank.

Paddlers land at the natural landing by Loděnice. This makes Loděnice of interest to travelers who want to go paddling on the Opava. The information about the cycling path and the natural landing describes different activities on the river.

Every Sunday, free music in various styles has been played at Loděnice for all visitors for more than 30 years. If this music event is important to your trip, check the date in advance. This lets you plan your visit for a Sunday without confusing the music event with the cycling path or the natural landing.

Chapels and local history

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is a protected cultural monument, and services are still held there today. The Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was built in 1726. These details combine religious use in the present with a specific historical construction date.

Educational trail and hiking route

A 2.5 km educational trail leads through the forest and back to Děhylov between fields. It has nine stops. There you can learn about Dobroslavice and Děhylov, the history of the park, and fauna, flora and rocks. Local history and nature topics sit side by side along this route; the educational trail offers a different way to explore the destination than the riverside cycling path along the Opava.

A description of the Háj–Děhylov hiking route, updated in April 2006, follows green-marked paths through Dobroslavice to Děhylov railway station. As this description is older, check the trail markings locally. The described route ends at the railway station; the educational trail through the forest and fields is another of the routes mentioned here.

Plan your journey

Děhylov railway station is on the Opava–Ostrava railway line. Check departure times before your trip if you plan to travel by train. A journey description updated in April 2026 also mentions taking bus line 75 from Ostrava, Poruba, VŠB-TUO to the Děhylov, železniční stanice stop. Check the bus connection before setting off.

For trip planning, there are several specific points of reference: the railway station on the Opava–Ostrava line, the riverside area at Loděnice, the ponds and wetlands, and the paths through forest and fields. You can add the cultural monuments and the described music event to whichever of these is your main focus.
