Frýdlant Nad Ostravicí: Trails and Culture
Accommodation in Frýdlant Nad Ostravicí
Frýdlant Nad Ostravicí lies in the Ostravice Valley below Lysá hora and forms a gateway to the Moravskoslezské Beskydy Mountains at their foot. Alongside its landscape, nature trails and riverbanks offer opportunities for activities, while a chapel, church, gallery, and memorial provide cultural points of interest. Options range from a short nature walk to a longer bike ride, and from architecture to industrial history.
Nature Trails and Bike Routes
The Lesní stezka Vyhlídka is 1 km long and has eight stations about local nature and wildlife. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes to reach on foot from Frýdlant nad Ostravicí train station; it is also directly accessible by car. This short trail is a good choice if you want to focus on nature and wildlife along a manageable route. As local restrictions may affect access, it is advisable to check current conditions before your visit.
The Naučná stezka Kamenec offers a different experience: this 2 km educational trail runs along the banks of the Ostravice and has seven stations about the history and nature of the river’s surroundings. Its route runs between the Harcovský Bridge and the footbridge in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí, in the direction of Lubno. By comparison, Kamenec is twice as long as Vyhlídka and focuses more on the riverside landscape; Vyhlídka focuses on local nature and wildlife. Trail conditions may change, so check local notices before setting out.
For a longer bike ride, consider the “Frýdlant n.O.–Ostravice” route. It starts at the tourist information centre and runs 23.4 km to the outdoor swimming pool in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí. The route is suitable for families, e-bikes, and bicycles with trailers. Surfaces and conditions may change; check the latest conditions before setting off.
Churches and Cultural History
The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary was consecrated on 5 November 1876. Built in the Neo-Romanesque style, it is decorated with paintings and a wooden ceiling. The chapel also serves visitors as a place for spiritual and cultural needs.
The Church of St. Bartholomew was built between 1672 and 1690 and enlarged in the first half of the 18th century. It has been protected as an immovable cultural monument since 3 May 1958. The Ferdiš Duša memorial is located in the cultural centre of Frýdlant nad Ostravicí.
The “Galerie uměleckého smaltu a litiny” gallery features a permanent exhibition on the history of enamel production in Frýdlant, as well as historical cast iron from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Check the latest opening hours before visiting.
A 2025 municipal publication describes themed tours offered by the tourist information centre under the title “Po stopách frýdlantské litiny a smaltu” as a long-running programme. The tours present the past and present of an industrial sector that has been important to the city’s development; availability may vary by season. A mobile tour of the same title, described in 2024, is about 1 km long and has nine stations. Another mobile tour described in 2024, “Po frýdlantských sochách”, focuses on local sculptures. For mobile tours, check signage and access locally.
