If you’re looking for a hotel in Havířov, it’s worth considering what you’d like to focus on during your stay. The city offers a range of points of interest, from protected architecture and nature to places of remembrance and leisure activities. You can choose where to stay based on whether you’re especially interested in the city’s history, its landscape or a particular programme.

Cityscape and natural environment

The Sorela conservation area lies in the centre of Havířov. It was designated in 1992 and includes a group of residential buildings in the centre, built in the 1950s in the Socialist Realist style. The construction and designation dates describe two different stages: the centre was built in the 1950s, and protected status was granted in 1992. The area is bordered by Stromovka Forest Park on one side and extends to the meanders of the Lučina on the other. Sorela’s description thus connects the architecture of the residential complex with its clearly defined location.

The Meandry Lučiny are a protected natural monument. They include a naturally meandering watercourse, as well as adjacent wetlands and alluvial forests that provide habitats for protected animal species. At about 2.5 kilometres long and covering a total area of 40.7 hectares, the site can be understood in terms of two different measures: the extent of the watercourse and the area of the natural monument. Alongside the city’s built heritage, Havířov therefore offers a natural environment with a variety of habitats to explore.

Places of remembrance and architectural history

The Památník životické tragédie commemorates 36 men who were killed on 6 August 1944 during a Nazi reprisal action. The memorial site houses a permanent exhibition by the Muzeum Těšínska: “Occupation and Resistance in the Těšín Region, 1938–1945”. The exhibition covers a specific period, while the memorial commemorates the victims and the date. Visits are possible by prior arrangement; take this requirement into account when planning.

The Kotulova dřevěnka offers another way to explore the past. It is one of the oldest log buildings of folk architecture in Cieszyn Silesia and the last surviving example of the original buildings in what is now Havířov. Since 1979, it has housed an exhibition about rural life around the turn of the 20th century. The Kotulova dřevěnka thus highlights both historic building methods and everyday life in a later period. Check visiting arrangements in advance, as opening arrangements may change.

Havířov Castle is another point of historical interest: it was ceremonially opened to the public on 10 January 1998. This date marks its opening at that time. It is a separate point of reference, distinct from Sorela’s architectural history and the rural way of life featured at the Kotulova dřevěnka.

Leisure and events

The central Dětský zábavní park has climbing frames, swings, sandpits and other attractions. Children up to the age of 15 can use them. Check the information about facilities and the age limit again before your visit. This makes it easy to include the park in your plans without conflating it with the city’s historical and natural attractions.

The Havířovské slavnosti is a traditional event organised by the statutory city of Havířov. Its multidisciplinary programme includes Czech and international music, as well as a variety of accompanying entertainment. If you’re planning to travel for the event, check the dates for the relevant edition. Architecture, nature, remembrance and events offer a range of different focal points to consider when choosing where to stay in Havířov.
