Hiking and Views Around Heřmánky

The Heřmánkový okruh circular trail starts and ends at Heřmánky ČD railway station and leads to the legendary Čertův kámen. This gives the route a clearly identified starting and ending point. You can also take a walk around Švédská skála in Heřmánky. A viewing pavilion on the rock overlooks the town and the Oder valley. Archaeological finds at Švédská skála also provide evidence of a hillfort.

In the area around Heřmánky, a hike leads from a slate quarry to the pilgrimage site of Panna Maria ve Skále in nearby Klokočůvek. Check trail conditions locally if you plan to take this hike.

A green-marked hiking route leads from Heřmánky railway station towards the Oder valley and on to the pilgrimage site of Panna Maria ve Skále. Markers for the Na Čermence natural monument are visible before Klokočov railway station. The area is an important breeding site in an old beech forest. Cycle route No. 503 also passes through Heřmánky. As route information can change, check the latest details before setting out on a bike ride.

Nature and Architectural History

Jubileum Spring is one of the natural attractions in Heřmánky. Another distinctive natural feature is the Tomčík yew in the garden of the former Fojtství: its trunk circumference is 240 cm. The tree’s location illustrates the connection between nature and architectural history at this site.

The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary is late Baroque and has folk-style furnishings dating from 1783. The cemetery around the church is still in use and has a well-maintained gate and wall. The remaining German gravestones have been moved to a lapidarium in the rear part of the cemetery. If the current condition of the gate and wall is important to you, check before your visit.

The former Fojtství in Heřmánky is a cultural monument with a medieval vaulted cellar. The complex dates from the last third of the 18th century. Classical architectural elements in the folk architecture make it a fine example of this combination. The former Fojtství has retained a high degree of authenticity and is one of the few surviving buildings of this type, function and age in the Moravian-Silesian Region. The first written mention of Heřmánky dates from 1362, providing a clearly earlier historical reference point.
