Hladké Životice lies in a gentle valley beside the Husí potok stream. Religious buildings and historic crosses, marked trails, and the remains of the Životice ponds offer different starting points for planning your trip. You can decide whether local history, walks, or a cycling trip should be the focus of your stay.

Churches, Chapels, and Crosses

The Church of St. Nicholas was built as a new stone church in 1686. Its construction date is considerably earlier than those of the dated crosses from 1870, 1877, and 1912. At the upper edge of the village, in the direction of Fulnek, stands the Chapel of St. Florian; “Michelova kaplička” is located in the built-up part of Hladké Životice. The Chapel of St. Agnes and St. Zdislava stands by a linden tree in the direction of Kunín.

The crosses include a sandstone Latin cross from 1870, a wooden mission cross from 1912, and the surviving torso of the Liebscher Cross from 1877. Their materials and states of preservation distinguish these landmarks; together with the older stone church and the chapels, they add to the picture of the village’s religious architecture and commemorative culture.

Landscape and Walks

Remains of the Životice pond embankments can be found around Hladké Životice. They invite visitors to explore and relax on walks. The Bartošovický luh Nature Reserve extends across the cadastral areas of Bartošovice, Hukovice, Hladké Životice, and Pustějov. Its landscape includes the naturally meandering course of the Oder River, wetlands, reed beds, floodplain meadows, and wet woodlands. For geographical context, it helps to distinguish between the two: Hladké Životice lies in the gentle valley beside the Husí potok stream, while the naturally meandering Oder River flows through the landscape of the nature reserve. The two landscape features offer different experiences: the embankment remains are a focus for walks, while the nature reserve highlights the river and its wetland habitats.

Walking and Cycling Routes

A blue-marked hiking trail passes through Hladké Životice and is considered an easy route through the Oder Valley between Jistebník and Suchdol nad Odrou. A hiking route of the Klub českých turistů (Czech Tourist Club) starts at Hladké Životice railway station and follows the blue-marked trail towards Bartošovice. The hiking route between Jistebník and Suchdol nad Odrou is described primarily by its easy rating and its course through the Oder Valley; for the KČT route, the station and the direction of Bartošovice serve as reference points. If you plan to travel by train, check the timetable in advance.

Cycle route 6131 passes through Hladké Životice and follows third-class roads as well as local and purpose-built roads. The surfaces are asphalt or paved, and the route is suitable for all types of bicycles. The cycle route is also distinguished by its numbering: cycle route 6131 is indicated for cycling, while hiking routes are marked in blue. When comparing the activities, you’ll find different planning details: the hiking route is described as easy and runs through the Oder Valley, while the cycling route’s surface and suitability for different types of bicycles provide specific guidance.
