Hostašovice combines distinctive water geography with a protected nature monument, a cycling route, and evidence of local history and food culture. The entire municipality lies within the Pobeskydí Nature Park; the main European watershed also runs through Hostašovice. If you are looking for hotels for your stay, these specific features can help you choose the place according to your interests.

Landscape and Water Geography

The entire municipality lies within the Pobeskydí Nature Park. The watershed is a different geographical feature: it runs through Hostašovice and marks the division between different drainage directions. The nature park therefore describes a broad landscape setting, while the watershed marks a specific line. This distinction connects the surrounding landscape with a distinctive geographical feature of the village. For travelers who consider nature and geography when choosing a destination, these two features offer different points of interest.

Springs and Bifurcation

The protected Prameny Zrzávky Nature Monument is located in the cadastral area of Hostašovice. The springs differ in their mineral content: one contains ferrous sulfate, while another contains hydrogen sulfide. A third, separate hydrogen sulfide spring lies 300 meters away. The site is accessible by car without access restrictions and is located 250 meters from the road. Check local conditions before setting out.

Another distinctive water feature is the Jaštěrka spring on Mount Trojačka. After just a few meters, its stream divides into two branches, each flowing toward a different sea. This division of a stream into branches with different drainage directions is called bifurcation.

Cycling Route and Nature Trail

For a cycling trip, “Koleje” is the specifically described route: it runs from Nový Jičín to Hostašovice railway station, is considered easy, and has only gentle inclines. It is also suitable for families with children. The František Palacký Nature Trail offers a different way to explore the area: it has 21 to 22 stops with information panels and covers nature, history, geology, and the landscape of the Podbeskydí region. While “Koleje” is described as a cycling route between two named endpoints, the trail’s content is organized around its stops and themes. This makes it possible to choose between a cycling route explicitly described as easy and suitable for families with children, and a nature trail organized by topic.

Local History and Buckwheat

The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius was built in 1850 and consecrated on October 17 of the same year. A sandstone cross was made in 1876 by master stonemason Josef Leidi for 100 gulden. For the chapel, the year of construction and consecration are recorded; for the cross, the material, craftsman, year, and price are known.

A tradition that continues to this day also shapes the local character: buckwheat is milled in Hostašovice, where people from the surrounding area come to buy it. For travelers interested in regional foods, both the product and its local processing are part of the village’s character.
