Accommodation in Moravskoslezský Kočov
Local history and religious buildings shape Moravskoslezský Kočov; nearby, Uhlířský vrch adds a protected natural monument. These topics can help you decide what to focus on when searching for a hotel and planning your trip. Bus route 910 is another practical detail to include in your day-to-day plans.
History of Moravskoslezský Kočov
Moravskoslezský Kočov was founded around 1300. A document from 1377 mentions the place as a large village with an hereditary judge’s office. Around 1380, a fortified settlement was built in Moravskoslezský Kočov. These three dates offer different insights into the area’s early history: they record its founding, a later description of the village, and the date of another structure. Slezský Kočov was probably established north of the existing village in 1544. The qualification “probably” is part of the dating and should be retained when interpreting it. This makes it possible to distinguish the presumed founding of Slezský Kočov from the earlier accounts of the area’s history.
Churches and chapels
The parish Church of St. Michael has survived with an older core and a late Renaissance tower. Its building history includes several clearly distinct changes: restorations took place in 1658 and 1793–1795; in 1823, the church was remodeled in the Empire style. The dates therefore do not refer to a single construction period, but to two restoration phases and a later remodeling. This distinction helps clarify the different stages in the church’s history.
The chapels also have their own dates. The Chapel of St. Elizabeth was renovated and consecrated in 2008. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary was one of four local chapels consecrated on September 21, 2002. Comparing the two dates reveals different events: the Elizabeth Chapel’s renovation and consecration are both dated to 2008, while the September 2002 date refers to the joint consecration of the four chapels. The area’s religious history therefore extends beyond the parish church to include several buildings and different dates.
Uhlířský vrch: natural monument and geology
Near Moravskoslezský Kočov lies Uhlířský vrch, a protected natural monument and the remnant of a stratovolcano that has been greatly smoothed by denudation processes. It also lies within the cadastral area of the city of Bruntál. On the quarry walls, which are about 30 meters high, volcanic tuffs account for almost the entire preserved thickness. The protected status and geological description highlight two different aspects of the site: its designation as a natural monument and its volcanic origins.
